468,873. Lever - buckles. WALKER, Ltd., T., and WALKER, G. T. May 21, 1936, No. 14339. [Class 43] [Also in Group XXV] A lever-buckle for securing an adjusted strap comprises a frame 1 having a lower hinged gripping bar 4 adapted to hold the strap in its adjusted position prior to it being secured by the turning down of an upper lever 6. The upper lever which is pivoted on a cross-bar of the frame has teeth 8 to engage the strap and a rolled over part 12 which in the fastening position, Fig. 6, presses the band over the edge of the lower gripping bar 4. The end of the strap is secured to a cross-bar 1a and the bar 4 is hinged to a central cross-bar 3. The bar 4 has teeth 17, 18 in different planes to engage the free portion 14 of the strap and turn the bar as the strap is pulled. Stops 13 on the bar 4 limit the movement of the bar to the closed portion and facilitate its movement by the fingers into an inoperative position. Specifications 382,415 and 467,848 are referred to. |

422,209. Clips. WALKER, Ltd., T., WALKER, G. T., and WOOD, H. H., Birmingham Buckle Works, St. Paul's Square, Birmingham. July 12, 1933, No. 19710. [Class 44] [See also Group VII] The lever 5 of a lever buckle is hinged upon the top bar of a rectangular wire or other frame 1, and comprises a front plate, and a gripping part 7 whose edge is cut at intervals to form a series of independent tongues. Certain of these tongues 9 have straight edges, and, when the lever is fastened, lie in a common vertical plane, to grip the webbing 4 immediately over the top edge of a U-shaped back plate 2, to which the fixed end 3 of the webbing, is secured. One or more other tongues 8, are bent rearwardly through a suitable angle, out of the plane of the tongues 9, and have their ends bent or rolled forwardly to form rounded corners or edges 11. As the lever 5 is closed, the corners 11 engage the webbing, and the tongues 8 are then forced over a dead centre to retain the lever in a closed position. |

402,234. Buckles. ERFASS, K. A. R., 6, Mosebacketorg, Stockholm. Oct. 26, 1932, No. 29993. Convention date, Aug. 19. [Class 43.] A clasp for holding together parts of garments 9, 10, comprises two metal parts 1, 2, hinged together on two cranked ends 4, 5, of a loop 3. The fabric ends 10, 9 are laid over the toothed and bent ends of the parts 1, 2, the former being first threaded through the loop 3, and the clasp is then folded into the position shown in Fig. 3. The pulling over of the loop 3 forces the toothed edge of the clasp 1 to bite into the fabric ends 10, 9. Notches 11 may be formed in the ends of the clasp so that the ends of the loop may snap into them for locking the clasp in the closed position. The loop 3 may have an extension to take a hose suspender strap. |

367,832. Buckles. HAWIE, M., Green Farms, Connecticut, U.S.A. Nov. 21, 1930, No. 35162. [Class 43.] A buckle for attachment and threading of a web comprises a wire frame 15, including an upper spaced transverse bar 12, and a sheet metal member which forms a lower transverse bar portion 13 having an upper outwardlybent toothed web-gripping edge 19 adjacent a slot 11 between the bar portions, the sheet metal member having a web-attaching inwardly-bent lip portion 20 and being bent to close tightly round the ends of the wire frame providing a connection incapable of turning movement in either direction relative to the wire frame. The sheet metal member may be bent round inwardly aligned ends 16 of the wire and carry ears 18, 24 for clamping against the vertical portions of the wire. Alternatively, the wire may terminate at the vertical portions which are then received in eyed extensions of the portion 13. The bend in the sheet metal member may be then perforated to facilitate gripping the web. The edge of the web-gripping lip may be toothed or plain. The wire frame may be offset as at 17. The web is gripped between the lip 20 and the portion 13 and may be carried down to a suspender fitting and upwardly through the slot 11. |

349,784. Lever clips. WALKER, Ltd. T., WALKER, G. T., and WOOD, H. H., Birmingham Buckle Works, St. Paul's Square, Birmingham. June 4, 1930, No. 17078. [Class 44.] In a lever-clip for braces, suspenders, &c. of the kind in which a lever 5, 6 clamps the webbing &c. 9 against a wire cross-bar 1 which is enclosed in, and secured by stitching to, the end 8 of the webbing, the wire bar is provided with a depending finger-piece also enclosed in the end 8, the bar at the same time having overlapping portions providing a substantially straight and continuous clamping surface for co-operation with the lever. As shown in Figs. 1, 5, 6 the wire is bent to provide a depending loop portion 2 the upper limbs overlapping and cranked at 3 to provide an aligned bar-member 1, the ends 4 of which are inturned to receive pivot lugs 7 on the lever 6. In a modification, Fig. 8, the lever 6 is pivoted centrally on a wire the ends of which are bent inwards to overlap side by side and provide the cross-bar 1, the free ends 2 of the wire being then bent downwards into hook form to provide the finger-piece. According to the Provisional Specification, the parts of member 1, instead of overlapping, may meet or nearly meet, the gap being bridged by a metal plate fingerpiece. |
