238,892. Hatheway, W. E. Aug. 21, 1924, [Convention date]. Clamps, eccentric.-Relates to buckles for suspenders and like articles and of the type in which teeth are formed on the inner edge of the opening in the floor of the buckle frame and at right-angles thereto to engage the webbing when forced thereagainst by the floor clamping- sections. The floor of the buckle frame has upturned ears, and a lever supporting-bar spaced therefrom to form a slot, and elongated webbing- clamping sections having cranked teeth on their free edges, which are adapted to be offset temporarily above or below the floor to form a stop for the end of the webbing and then to be forced towards the floor to clamp the end of the webbing. The buckle frame consists of a single piece of sheet metal comprising the floor 1, ears 2, and bar 3, on which is journaled the usual lever 15 the blade 15 of which is provided with teeth 17. In Figs. 2 and 3 the clamping-sections 9, 10 are shown depressed below the floor with their teeth 11, 12 at right-angles to the sections to form claws to hold the webbing 18, and the ears 2 are set at an obtuse angle to the floor 1. The sections 9, 10 are closed with the end of the webbing anchored thereto, and the remaining portion of the webbing 1 is passed around under the sections, over the upper surface of the floor, and under the grip of the lever blade 15 as shown in Fig. 5. With the ears 2 erect and the clamping-sections elevated above the floor 1 as shown in Figs. 6 and 7, the webbing 18 is first passed over the floor with its end abutting the base of the upturned sections, which are then closed down on to the underlying end of the webbing, and the webbing is then carried over a portion of the upper surface of the buckle frame and under the lever 15, around the edge of the frame, and returned to form the loop 19, thence over the frame and under the grip of the lever 15. The ears 2 are reinforced at their base by a small fillet a, the base of the ears and the fillet being practically in line with the inner edge b of the floor. The sides c are inclined so as to be concealed within the webbing.
