[Class 44] An adjustable lever-grip device for bands, webbing, &c. comprising a back plate to which one end of the band is secured and having a forwardly-presented gripping edge, and a front operating plate pivotally mounted on the back plate, has the pivotal connection formed by inturned and inwardly extending pivot members on one member engaging bearings in or on the other. One form, shown assembled, Fig. 4, and separated, Fig. 7, comprises a back plate 1 with loop 3 to which an end of the band is secured, rolled bearings 7, and forwardly directed gripping edge 5 preferably provided with teeth 6. The operable front plate 2 has inturned ends 8 with aligned extensions 9 engaging in the rolls 7. In a modification, loop 3 is omitted and the end of the band passes entirely round member 1. Fig. 15 shows a further form in which the end of the band is to be passed round member 1 and secured, and in which perforated lugs 10 receive the inturned extensions 9. Fig. 19 shows a form in which the ends of member 1 are bent round to provide aligned tongues 1a round which the end of the band is passed and secured, the parts 9 engaging in perforations 12 at the ends of member 1. The above constructions avoid rearwardly projecting parts on the back plate, to rub against and damage clothing of the wearer, and according to the first Provisional Specification the same end is attained by making the back plate wide enough to extend beyond the pivot lugs.

382,415. Buckle fastenings. WALKER, Ltd., T., WALKER, G. T., and WOOD, H. H., Birmingham Buckle Works, St. Paul's Square, Birmingham. Oct. 20, 1931, No. 29072. [Class 43.] A buckle such as for brace or suspender webbing comprises a frame 1 on opposite sides whereof are mounted a pair of opposed angularly movable gripping members, and one end of a band or webbing 5 is adapted to be secured to one gripping member so that in use when the main length of the webbing is passed through the frame between the members they co-operate to grip the webbing between them. The frame 1 is formed of wire having inturned ends 1a about which a metal plate is bent to form separated sides 2, 3. The webbing is adapted to be swedged between the sides 2, 3, the side 2 being toothed if required. The side 3 is longer than the other and serves as a gripping member. Lugs 4 bent out of the plate embrace the wire ends 1a to form a hinge connection. Pivotal movement may be limited as by the edges of the side 3 and by stops on the side 2 or by stops on the frame. A metal plate is bent to form a gripping member 7 and a lever plate 6 and is hingedly secured to the frame by lugs 8. Teeth may be provided on the gripping members. In fastening, the gripping member 7 is adapted to move past a dead-centre position so as to prevent slipping from the fastened position.

359,695. Buckles &c. FAIRE, SIR S. and STEELS & BUSKS, Ltd., Temple Road, North Evington, Leicester. Oct. 15, 1930, No. 30836. [Class 43.] In buckles or bucklelike slides for use with a strip of elastic or non- elastic webbing 9, leather, rubber or like material, the slide 1 consists of a single piece of metal, celluloid, or other material having at least three slots 2, 3, 4, and bent substantially double or U-shaped, thus providing bars 5..8 so disposed that the webbing 9 is bent round the bars 6, 7, and gripped frictionally thereby when tensioned. The webbing 9 may be attached at one end of the slide and passed through it to form an adjustable loop 10, as in hose suspenders. The webbing may be attached to the bar 8 by a stitched loop 12, or by swedging, in which case the material punched out to form the slot 4 may be used for securing the webbing. After forming the loop 10, the webbing may be passed under the bar 5, through the slot 2 crossing from front to back through the slots 3, 4, and bent substantially at right-angles round edges 6a, 7a of the bars 6, 7. When under tension the slide is held by frictional engagement at these edges. The bar 5 may be offset slightly in relation to the bar 6. Where the slide is used for hose suspenders, the loop 10 carries a suspender fitting 11.

341,839. Lever clips. WALKER, Ltd., T., WALKER, G. T., and WOOD, H. H., Birmingham Buckle Works, St. Paul's Square, Birmingham. Jan. 30, 1930, Nos. 23193 and 19416. Divided on 341,289. [Class 44.] In a clip for fastening webbing, straps &c. but particularly described as applied to the adjustable band of a stocking suspender, the lever limb 6 is inclined at an acute angle to the operating limb 1 so that a flat face of limb 6 clamps the main portion of the band 3 against an upstanding seating, the edge of limb 6 passing over or co-operating with a shoulder adjacent to the seating. As shown in Figs. 1, 2, the lever is pivoted on the upper bar 2 of a loop and the end of the band 3 is secured to the device by an attachment plate 5, one edge of which is curled round the lower bar 4 of the loop to provide the shoulder 9 which is just cleared by the edge of lever-arm 6. Plate 5 is bent to channel form and compressed to grip the end of band 3, the upstanding portion 8 of the plate providing the seating. Fig. 3 shows a form in which the plate 5 is flat and soldered to the lower bar 4 of the loop which provides the shoulder, the parts 4, 5 being enclosed by the end of band 3 which is secured by stitching. A modification is described in which the lever is pivoted between lugs upstanding from a back-plate which forms the seating and is cranked to provide the shoulder, the end of the band being passed through a slot near the lower end of the plate and secured by stitching. Further modifications are described in which the lever is pivoted between lugs integral with a channelled plate generally resembling that shown in Fig. 1, various ways of forming the plate being illustrated.
