Assembly to make sand cores for molds, in a foundry, is a mold box with a fixed half-mold (4) and a moving half-mold (5) with nests (6) between them to shape the sand core. A setting plate (12) is at the moving half-mold on the side away from the side towards the fixed section, preferably with the heating pad (3), to give the to and fro movement. When the assembly is open, the setting rods hold the setting plate at a gap from the half-mold and act as beating pins (13) to push the half-mold closed and bring the setting plate up against it. |

In a method of pushing out the mould block or core from the mould frame, the block is solidified inside the mould frame, set up on the pattern plate, by a self-setting binder. Thrust plates in the corners of the frame at the end of pusher rods can then be used to raise the block, leaving the frame to rest on the pattern plate. This speeds up the extn. operation of mould blocks from the frame. This operation can be fully automated and requires a min. of space. |

A moulding box and a pattern plate are fixed on a carrier under the press head, which can be moved horizontally away from its position above the assembly. Carrier contains holes, via which pegs can lift box off the plate; and the carrier is also located on a horizontal pivot shaft so it can be turned over through 180 degrees for removing the mould from the plate. In the turned over position, the moulding box is pref. located above a vertically movable carrier table for the mould in its box. Carrier pref. sits on a vibrator when it is the moulding position; and its horizontal pivot shaft is pref. mounted on vertical, telescopic pillars. Provides inexpensive machine which can be used to make either small or large moulds. |

841,143. Moulding-machines. BADISCHE MASCHINENFABRIK AKTIENGESELLSCHAFT SEBOLDWERK. Aug. 23, 1956 [Aug. 24, 1955], No. 25837/56. Class 83 (1). A method, in turntable moulding- machines, of lifting upper and lower boxes of a moulding-box from a pattern-plate, and subsequently conveying away the finished half-mould, comprises lifting the pattern-plate and box rapidly relatively to the turntable, and thereafter first separating the box slowly from the pattern-plate and then moving it rapidly upwardly for lowering on to a short roller-conveyer for removal, after which the pattern-plate is again lowered on to the turntable, all the operations taking place one after the other and automatically. The machine comprises a turntable 10 and a lifting-off-station IV. The stripping-device at station IV comprises an outer cylinder 18 containing a piston 21 supporting a table 15 carrying lifting-pins 22, and an inner piston 19 carrying a table 16 on which the pattern-plate 1 and mould-box O are supported. Guide-rods 66 attached to the table 16 pass through stops 20, and incorporate dashpot devices 67. The piston 19 is normally held at the top of its stroke in the chamber 64 by pressure-air from the line 28. In operation, pressure-air is fed beneath the piston 21 so that the tables 15, 16, with the pattern and box thereon, rise from the turntable 10 at the speed of movement of the piston 21. When the dashpot devices 67 engage the stops 20, the table 16 is slowly brought to a standstill, relative movement of the tables causing the pins 22 to slowly lift the box from the pattern. After movement of the table 16 has stopped, the box moves from the pattern at the speed of movement of the piston 21. Towards the end of the upward movement of the box, rails 70, Fig. 3, upon which the stripping-pins 22 are supported, are moved by engagement of a cam-follower 38 in a cam groove 40,. allowing the pins 22 to descend from ramps 69 on the rails and thereby deposit the box on to a roller-conveyer 68 carried by the table 15. Operation of a limitswitch 41 in the top position causes removal of the flask from the conveyer 68 to an adjoining conveyer, by actuating a pusher. When the box has left the conveyer 68, actuation of a limit-switch 43 causes the piston and pattern to be restored to their initial positions for commencement of another cycle. |

727,319. Moulding-machines. FAURE, B. Sept. 10, 1951 [Sept. 9, 1950], No. 21293/51. Class 83 (1). A support for the moulding box during drawing comprises two telescopic tubular parts combined with a spring tending to extend them, an elastic sheath between the tubular parts and means to inflate the sheath and thus immobilize said parts. Each of the push-elements may comprise a hollow support 1, secured to a fixed part of the machine by nuts 12, a sleeve 3 being arranged about the support and supported by a spring 4. The upper ends of both parts are closed and a rubber sheath 2 is secured in at least two points 5 over a reduced and perforated part 7 of the support. After the sleeves 3 have been pushed down by the mould box they are made immovable by admitting compressed air to the supports 1, thus expanding the sheaths 2 and looking the sleeves 1, 3. The spring 4 may be replaced by electrical, pneumatic or mechanical means. |

293,734. Cole, E. M. April 11, 1927. Moulding - machines. - Moulds are drawn by yieldingly supporting rods which first engage them and automatically conform to irregularities and then are raised by mechanism. The mould and pattern-plate are placed on rails 5 carried by a stand 1 having two legs 2 and two wheels 4. The stand has vertical rails 34 on which two casings 18 are moved by links 37, levers 39 and a hand-lever 43, the weight of the moving parts being balanced by springs 41. As the casings 18 are moved upwards, rods 14, 15 axially movable therein, engage brackets 10 on the cope 7 and are pressed into the casings against the action of springs 24, Fig. 5. The rods 14, 15 are then clamped by arm 44 so that they move with the casings 18 and lift the cope 7 from the pattern-plate 8. Then rods 16, 17 engage extensions 8a of the plate 8 and function like the rods 14, 15 to lift the plate from the drag 6. The plate 8 is then withdrawn, the rods 15 having outward bends 15a to allow this. The casings 18 are then lowered to assemble the mould and this is removed for filling with molten metal. The clamping and release of the rods are effected by an arm 59, Fig. 10, of a shaft 45 journaled in the casings 18 which arm is pressed against a plate 71 on a stationary member 32 by a spring 54. When the casings are moved up, a projection 61 slides along a spring-pressed hinged guide 68 and a rigid guide 62 carried by an adjustable plate 63. When the end 61 passes beyond the guide 62 the spring 54 rotates the shaft 45 and a cam 50 presses the arms 44 to clamp the rods 14, 15 which have adjusted themselves to the inequalities of the cope. During the downward movement of the casings 18 the arm 59 is returned to its normal position by an inclined surface 70 the plate 68 yielding to allow the end 61 to pass. The device for clamping the rods 16, 17 is similar but the corresponding plate 62 is longer to give a later action. |

195,771. Pritchard, P. Jan. 10, 1922. Moulding - machines. - The sand is rammed in a moulding- box by a pivoted plate. The sandcompressing plate 4, or a wooden or other plate attached thereto, is carried by hand-levers 3 pivoted to lugs 2 on the frame 1 and acted on by an adjustable spring 5. The moulding-box is raised from the pattern, after ramming, by pins 18 which pass through openings in the frame and are adjustably carried by a cylinder 8 moved in a bearing 9 by a cranked hand-lever 10, arm 11 and link 12. The box may be held in its raised position by a catch 13 engaging the lever 10. |
