Further protrusion of the piston rod 21a does not lower the rod 19 but lowers only the clamping device 20 and, when the clamping device reaches a dead pt. the counter force applied to the rod 19 becomes 0, so that the wedge 23 is lowered by the stored force of the spring 24 to clamp the rod 19. The clamping device 20 is returned to the dead pt. by moving the piston rod 21a backward as possible. The material coal is laminated and compacted by repeated the above-mentioned operation. Cubic, compacted cake is formed in the molding box by performing the compaction process with a frame 11 being horizontally moved.
