At the same time, plate 1 is located so that the linear polarized light of the linear polarized light of the liquid crysal molecule touching transparent substrate 2 may be transmitted. As a result, transmisstion light 8 of the cell presents the fluorescent color by coloring matter 4, but molecule 5 features the vertical orientation with applicaion of the voltage through transparent electrode 3 and 3', and transmission light 7 of plate 1 does not excite the coloring matter. In other words, the fluorescent color is shown only with no application of the voltage, thus enhancing both the lightness and the contrast. This effect, however, is reduced by the full reflection of transparent substrate 2 and 2', so the unevenness is given to the outside of one substrate in order to reflect the fluorescent light to outside.
