CONSTITUTION: A primary coil 12 is wound round the outer circumference of a primary spool 10, a secondary spool is placed on the outer-circumferential side of the coil 12, and a secondary coil 16 is wound round the outer-circumference of the secondary spool. The winding end of the coil 16 is connected to the secondary high-voltage terminal 26 buried in a tower portion 24. A resistor 32 is connected between the terminal 26 to which high-voltage cord is to be connected and the terminal 26' to which the winding end of the secondary coil is to be connected. High-frequency voltage is generated by the discharge of an ignition plug, and surge voltage increases due to the wear of ignition plug gap. Thereby, surge voltage is divided by the resistor 32, and working on the secondary coil 16 is decreased. Therefore, the secondary coil 16 is prevented from dielectric breakdown.
