CONSTITUTION: A cylindrical socket part 12 is installed in the lower end of a piston rod 3, while an adjusting plate 11 provided with a fitting hole 21 to be slidably fitted in the socket part is manufactured separately apart from the piston rod 3, fitting the socket part 12 in the fitting hole 21, then a clearance between a cylinder liner 2 and a piston 1 is adjusted right and, after a centering process takes place, the adjusting plate 11 and a crosshead pin 4 both are temporarily clamped with a fitting-up bolt 13. Next, the piston rod 3 is pulled out and the adjusting plate 11 and the crosshead pin 4 are clamped regularly with a bolt 14, while the socket part 12 is inserted into a fitting hole, and the piston rod 3 and the crosshead pin 4 are clamped with a bolt 15, thus centering for the piston is all over. Doing like this, a shim adjustment in all directions and takeout work for the crosshead out of an engine each time are all omissible so that centering operation is thus simplified so easy.
