CONSTITUTION: A ≥2C water-soluble amine having a pKb≤5 and/or its carbonate, and water are brought into contact with a mixture of styrene oxide, styrene, and a 2W9C fatty acid, particularly a reaction mixture of styrene with an organic peracid, to separate and purify the styrene oxide. An amino-alcohol of formula I: (R is H, methyl, or ethyl group; R' is H or methyl group; m and n are integers 1W3) or a morpholine of formula II: [R is H, methyl, ethyl, or formula III (m is an integer 0W3)] may be preferably used as the amine.
USE: Raw materials for medicines and perfumes.
