Crude night soil is directly mixed in said fluidized beds with the agitation by screws, propellers, etc. to develop thorough contact. While the aerobic atmosphere wherein oxygen exists is maintained in the upper part of the treatment tank, the atmosphere in the lower part thereof is anaerobic. 3 -N in the mixed liquid to nitrous acids and nitric acids is accomplished in the aerobic part and the NO
2 -N, NO
3 -N generated in this stage are denitrified in the anaerobic part, and are released into the atmosphere as gaseous nitrogen.
