CONSTITUTION: High concn. waste liquid 1 in excess of an application range of an ordinary activated sludge method is flowed without dilution into a nitrifying tank 2 through a line 2. The tank 2 is provided with an aerating device 4 of large oxygen supplying capacity using a rotary atomizer as an air diffuser, wherein nitric acid germs act actively and the greater part of the BOD in the waste water is removed and the conversion of NH
4 -N to NO
2 -N and further to N
2 takes place. The nitrified liquid after the treatment is introduced into a denitrifying tank 5, where it undergoes denitrification by nitrous acid germs. Part of the denitrified liquid circulates to the line 2 through a line 7. The greater part of the denitrified liquid is discharged from a line 11 through an aerating tank 8 and a solid-liquid separating tank 10.
