CONSTITUTION: An original solution to be disposed is carried from an original solution tank 10 to an air-dispersing part 13 arranged in a nitrificating-denitrificating tower 12, by a pump 11. The solution is dispersed by the air fed from an air- dispersing pipe 6 to increase a dissolved oxygen amount. The solution flows upwards through a bacteria filtering zone. In this zone, soludge flocks are separated from the original solution by the filters, and the BOD, COD and SS values of the original solution are reduced also. Besides, nitrogen compounds such as NH
3 -N contained in the original solution are oxidized to NO
3 -N and NO
2 -N by reactions of nitrificating bacteria in the sludge which adhere onto the filter grains or exist in spaces among the filter grains. Owing to the oxidizing reactions, the lower layer 14 of the bacteria filtering zone is kept under an aerobic atmosphere, while the upper layer 15 is kept under an anaerobic atmosphere. Consequently, in the upper layer 15 of the bacteria filtering zone, the original solution is denitrificated by the actions of denitrificating bacteria living in the sludge within the filter grains.
