2W10 linear or branched alkylene, e.g., 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropanesulfonate salt, in a form of an aqueous solution having a weight ratio (acid base), A/B, of 95/5W70/30, and a total monomer concentration of components A and B of 40wt% to saturation, are copolymerized in the absence of a crosslinking agent by using a water-soluble radical polymerization initiator. The present resin has excellent salt resistance and an extremely high water-absorbing capacity, can be used as a water-retaining material in soil conditioning, can be used suitably as a urine-absorbing material for paper diapers, and a blood-absorbing material for sanitary articles.
