15 Polyurea elastomer systems with improved adhesion to substrates US869385 1997-06-05 US5759695A 1998-06-02 Dudley J. Primeaux, II
Polyurea elastomer systems have improved adhesion to a substrate with the use of a primer that is applied first. The primer is composed of hydrophobic, primary hydroxyl-containing compound, for example, castor oil, and an isocyanate. It is not necessary to wait for the primer to cure prior to applying of the polyurea elastomer system. The primer system is particularly useful on wet substrates, where the primer penetrates the substrate prior to polyurea elastomer spraying. Regardless of whether the substrate is dry or wet, adhesion is improved.
16 Method of waterproofing rigid structural materials US258562 1994-06-10 US5482737A 1996-01-09 John H. Gaveske
A novel coating for waterproofing and sealing a rigid structural unit using a styrene polymeric film cast from an organic solvent is disclosed. The coating is easily maintained as damaged areas and imperfections can be repaired by simply applying additional liquid composition to the damaged area, and the liquid composition remelts the existing film allowing the newly formed film to be continuous. In addition, the composition can be applied to structural units in sub-freezing temperatures or to wet surfaces. Novel methods relating to the use of the liquid coating composition are also disclosed.
