10 Programmable hydraulic drive system for transporting articles US19125371 1971-10-21 US3851766A 1974-12-03 GILL T; BAILLY D
A crane drive system including a fluid crane motor for driving a carriage member to selected ones of a plurality of work stations and a fluid motor for actuating a hoist mechanism. A variable delivery pump drives the motors to a closed loop hydraulic circuit which includes control valves for starting and stopping the motors. Variable speed control of either or both motors is accomplished by varying the output of the pump. The control valves are actuated to selected positions by a programmable control system. The control system includes a comparator circuit for comparing a pattern of electrical signals representative of the actual position of the carriage member with a pattern of signals representative of the position of a preselected work station. An output signal having a value representative of the difference between the values of the two patterns of signals is developed by the comparator circuit. This output signal is then applied to a control valve for starting the crane motor to drive the carriage member to the preselected work station.
11 Hydraulic crane control system having means for deactivating control valves when operating limit is exceeded US38988273 1973-08-20 US3814265A 1974-06-04 MILLER M
A mobile crane has a plurality of components which are selectively movable to various positions by means of individual hydraulic actuators (such as hydraulic motors or hydraulic rams) in response to selective operation of control valves. The control valves are grouped in one or more valve banks and, preferably, each bank is supplied with fluid from its own engine-driven hydraulic pump. Diversion of fluid from within a certain section of each valve bank has the effect of rendering the control valves in the bank inoperative. The crane also includes a pilot pressure operated holding valve for the hydraulic boom hoist cylinders and closure of this valve (effected by diversion of the pilot fluid thereto) prevents further boom movement. Means are provided to prevent further movement or operation of all crane components in the event one component, such as the boom, is operated or about to be operated beyond specified operating limits. Such means comprises a weight-load device for sensing that boom operating limits are about to be exceeded and an electric relay responsive to the sensing device to operate solenoid valves which divert fluid from the aforementioned section of the valve bank and divert pilot pressure from the boom hoist cylinder holding valve, thereby preventing further operation of any crane component by means of operation of a control valve and locking the boom in whatever position it is in. Selectively operable override means are provided to bypass the sensing device and operate the solenoids as to enable operation of the control valves and permit selective movement of the crane components.
12 Hydraulic turntable US3743223D 1971-09-20 US3743223A 1973-07-03 SPELLMAN F
A hydraulically-powered turntable including a fixed multiple channel oil feed mounting spool which functions as an axle for a rotary spool housing, the latter serving both as a turntable hub and a manifold for distributing oil in the performance of various hydraulic functions which are associated with the turntable as a whole. A worm drive for the turntable hub embodies a spring helix and worm wheel which, together with certain hub-stabilizing devices, operate in a pool of lubricating oil.
13 System for automatically paying-out line proportional to extension of crane boom US3701439D 1970-05-01 US3701439A 1972-10-31 LADO WILLIAM J
In a hydraulic system, a proportional flow valve is used for automatically paying-out line as a crane boom is extended so that extension of the boom will not draw up the hook or cause damage if there is no free line. The proportional flow valve diverts to the winch motor some of the hydraulic fluid directed by a manual valve toward the boom-extending cylinder. The necessary pressure in the line to the winch motor, required for actuating a safety valve in the return line from the winch motor, is achieved through the use of a special reversing valve for the winch motor. This reversing valve has a combination closed and open center spool so that when centered it blocks the line to which fluid is diverted while leaving open the return line.
14 Hydraulic system for single engine truck crane or the like US3686862D 1971-04-14 US3686862A 1972-08-29 GRIDER LYLE D; HORNAGOLD JOHN T; RATHI RAM N
A hydraulic system for a single engine truck crane includes a pump input section in the carrier that is driven by the carrier engine and an output section in the upper works. A closed loop connects the input and output sections and requires only two passages through the swivel joint. The working reservoir is in the upper works, and a supercharge pump in the upper works is driven by the output section and draws from the reservoir to feed the loop. In one embodiment the output section comprises a flow divider leading to valve units and working motors which are incorporated in the closed loop, and in another embodiment the output section includes a power motor which is driven by the pump in the carrier and which drives working pumps in the upper works that serve the working motors.
