163 ADJUSTABLE SAFETY DISTANCE SPACER FOR BICYCLES EP03740490.2 2003-07-03 EP1541456A1 2005-06-15 Benitez Manzano, Diego

The invention relates to an adjustable safety distance spacer for bicycles, comprising two guide tubes (1, 2), a spacer rod (5) which moves inside the aforementioned guide tubes and which passes through perforated plugs (9), a refracting rotor comprising four curved blades (7) and a circumferential protector (6) which is disposed at one of the ends of the spacer rod and which is solidly connected to said rod by means of a safety clevis (8), and two supports (3, 4) which are used to fix the guide tubes (1, 2) to the bicycle frame (10). In this way, the cyclist can adjust the size of a safety signal strip quickly, comfortably and safely using just one hand when he/she is being overtaken by another vehicle, thereby preventing the cyclist from being hit owing to the incompetency or carelessness of the driver of the overtaking vehicle.

164 SAFETY PEDAL FOR A CYCLE EP99928138.9 1999-06-30 EP1093431B1 2003-05-28 Sumner, Steven Robert; Keena, Trevor Bernard
A bicycle pedal is provided with a power source, such as a replaceable long-life battery or a rechargeable battery, recharged, from an external power supply via terminals on the pedal, or, if required, by a solar panel on the cycle, and an electronic circuit for driving a number of light emitting devices (LEDs) positioned to provide rearward facing constant or flashing red light to warn approaching vehicles. The circuit is coupled to switch means, such as a force sensitive switch, so that the illumination is enabled when a cyclist puts pressure on the pedal. The safety pedal may also be provided with a light sensitive switch that acts as a poower saving arrangement ensuring operation of the electronic circuit only when the ambient light level is sufficiently low to require rearward illumination. The pedal may also provide a green, white, or some other non-red light forward facing from the pedal.

An indication device capable of indicating its location, when used, by securely lighting or flashing a light emitter and securely stopping the wasteful consumption of power, when not in use, by automatically turning off the light emitter, comprising a case body which can be installed, when used, on a moving part using a pressure sensitive adhesive double coated tape or a mounting device, the light emitter which lights up or flashes by a current from the power supply installed on the case body, and an automatic switch which is installed between the light emitter and the power supply and turned on automatically when the device is used.
166 MOTION ACTIVATED ILLUMINATED REFLECTIVE APPARATUS EP99964957.7 1999-11-03 EP1131242A1 2001-09-12 CASWELL, Ty, J.
A motion activated illuminated reflective apparatus (10) having all of it's electrical components mounted within a housing (12) that is secured to a rotatable object. Those components include a light source (22), an electrical power source (14), a first switch (16) activated by intermittent motion of the housing and a second switch (18) activated by centrifugal forces caused by rotation of the rotatable object. The illuminated apparatus (10) also includes a timer (20) which is operably connected relative to the first switch (16) and the second switch (18) such that activation of either the first switch (16) or the second switch (18) initiates the timing cycle of the timer (20) and enables the flow of electricity from the power source (14) to the light source (22). The light source (22) can include an electro luminescent strip (40) or light emitting diodes (22).

171 FELGE EP97908131.0 1997-01-31 EP0879167A1 1998-11-25 Wankelmann, Bernd
The aim is to improve the safety in traffic of a bicycle by means of a permanent lateral safety device, without affecting the spoke tension, true running or brake action of rim brakes. This is achieved by an arrangement in which the rim (1) is provided, radially inside and/or outside the flanks which act as a brake ring (2), with at least one other annular lateral surface (3) for mounting reflecting strips (4).

The disclosure relates to a rotary indicating device preferably in use, for example, for wheel covers for motor vehicles. The device includes a rotary base member having an indication region. The indication region indicates a desired image and comprises a plurality of reflection faces. The reflection faces are inclined in the same direction and also at the same angle with respect to a standard plane perpendicular to a rotary axis of the rotary base member. Thus, when the rotary base member rotates, the observer can visually recognize the image as a clear single image due to the after image phenomenon.
