23 Method for binding book by thread stitching and bookbinding line for practicing the same JP4549693 1993-03-05 JPH0624180A 1994-02-01 ROORANTO GURUNDAA
PURPOSE: To improve work efficiencies by a method wherein in the bookbinding of printed sheets, fold sections are put into a device releasably connected to the interior of a storage section according to the cycle of fold sections so as to be fed intermittently therefrom to a thread stitching section. CONSTITUTION: Printed sheets which are folded at a hand feeding station 2 and piled are transferred on a feed path 3 of a gathering device 4 and gathered into fold sections 5. The sections 5 are fed to a receiving device 7 by a sheet feed device 6 provided in the device 4. The receiving device 7 is given a function as a wound body station and forms the fold section 5 to be stored into a wound body 8. The wound body 8 is stored on a wound body frame 9 in a storing device 11 so as to be subjected to thread stitching. And the wound bodies 8 in the device 11 are successively released and transferred to a thread stitching machine 10 by a forklift 12.

PURPOSE: To provide a method and an apparatus in which, on the bookbinding by stitching signatures, the thread used to form stitches is severed giving no slackness on stacks and the needle draws out the thread giving no scar on stacks by selecting an appropriate severing length of the stitch thread. CONSTITUTION: The thread 4 used to form stitches is severed subsequent to completed assembly of a stack 1 and following partial assembly, consisting of at least two signatures 3, of the next-following stack.

28 Apparatus for producing book blocks from a stack of signatures US75260 1998-05-11 US5984603A 1999-11-16 Heinz Boetschi; Hans Hollenstein
An apparatus for producing book blocks from a stack of aligned signatures each having a fold and which together form a spine of a book block. An arrangement for stitching stitches the signatures together with at least two spaced transverse seams formed of a double strand of binding thread passing through each of the folds of the signatures from a location outside of the signatures and extending along an inner edge of each of the folds to an exit point in each of the folds. The transverse seams include a chained transverse seam having loop-like binding thread sections. An interrupting arrangement interrupts the chained transverse seam at an end region of the book block such that a last formed loop-like section of the binding thread remains unchained and is left at the end region of the book block. An unreleasably fastening arrangement unreleasably fastens the last formed loop-like section to either the chained transverse seam and the folds of the signatures.
29 Book sewing machine with automatic separation of books US654447 1984-09-26 US4639177A 1987-01-27 Gianattilio Meratti
A book sewing machine has an inserter for plates for indicating the planes of separation between the books. Each plate is disposed in the separation plane in correspondence with the top of the adjacent face of the contiguous books on that side of the books facing the loader. The machine also has a gluer for applying a layer of glue to the backs of the books which advance towards the discharge zone. Close to the latter is a separator constituted by a cutting blade which traverses the pile of books so that it cuts the layer of glue on the backs and simultaneously cuts the thread connecting the last book to the next book, thus effecting the separation. An operating cycle of the separator device is started each time a control circuit is given an enabling signal by a detecting device for detecting the passage of a plate. The position of the detection device preferably coincides with that of the cutting blade which may be a separate element or which may be part of the plate.
30 Notebook construction US652507 1984-09-20 US4618166A 1986-10-21 Peter H. Y. Hsi
A notebook construction in which multiple blank pages of a small notebook are provided by folded sheets of paper eight times the nominal dimensions of the notebook pages. Selective unfolding of the folded pages provides larger pages for use where desired. Sheets of paper having an area eight times the area of the folded pages are stacked and sewn together along one-half of a center fold. The other half of the center fold is cut so that each half of the sheet may be folded twice to the completely folded page size, and the sheets are of different colors so that the two halves of a particular sheet may be selected and used. The stitching utilizes threads of different colors, and the threads extend beyond the stitching by a distance sufficient for the threads to act as a built-in bookmark. The stiffer cover of the notebook has rows of perforations spaced inwardly from its edges to facilitate removal of edge portions so that the cover can fit into a pocket or pockets in a protective and/or decorative outer cover.
31 Binding hole punch apparatus US894539 1978-04-07 US4175457A 1979-11-27 Morris L. Jacobs; Hiram J. Dunagan
Disclosed is an apparatus for punching spaced binding holes in discrete stacks of bound pages, the apparatus being characterized by a front stop member and a conveyor belt releasing member whose motion is synchronized with the punch strokes. This action together with use of a joined punch and die assembly in the apparatus adapt the resulting structure for rapid, accurate punching of binding holes in pages received in discrete stacks from a high speed automatic stitcher-binder or the like.
32 Method and means for fabricating magazines US470141 1974-05-15 US4032131A 1977-06-28 William F. Davis
Novel, new means of the present invention for controllably guiding a plurality of webs is provided to cooperate with other equipments resulting in an unexpected new, novel and ameliorated method of fabricating magazines with continuously driven webs by stopping a portion of the collected plurality of webs for a sufficient duration of time to permit conjoining the webs with each other and subsequently severing and folding the web material at the continuous driven web rate.
