| The present invention relates to a protective film (110, 210) for application to a card member (144, 244) and forming identification cards (198, 298) having protective films (110, 210). The method of applying protection to a card member (144, 244) includes providing a protective film (110, 210). The protective film (110, 210) includes a protective overlay (120, 220) and an ink-receptive material (130, 230). The ink-receptive material (130, 230) includes an ink-receptive coating (132, 232) on a backing layer (134, 234). The ink-receptive coating (132, 232) is bonded to the protective overlay (120,220). The method also includes removing the backing layer (134, 234) from the ink-receptive coating (132, 232) and laminating the ink-receptive coating (132,232) to a surface of a card member (144, 244). | ||||||
