PURPOSE:To obtain a goose-neck type European type bar operable by direct powers and capable of typing two letters by only one bar by providing a letter switching mechanism fittable to its guide without fail and also without causing any trouble to the rotation for the type bar rotationally operating at the supporting point as the center. CONSTITUTION:A neck is provided at an right angle on the type face of two letters, and two stoppers to stop the neck in typing condition are provided. An automatic retuen type type-switching bar-operating bar is provided in such a way as to present obstruction to the rotational operation of the type bar, and a hook metal-operating spring is also provided to operate the hook metal in such a way as to keep the switched state of the letter. Also, an automatic return type hook metal-removing bar is provided in such a way as to prevent obstruction to the rotational operation of the type bar. Then, the hook metal is removed and the type is restored to another letter state by the action of the type returning spring. |

A changeable type element for typebars of a typewriter is disclosed comprising a U-shaped member having a pair of walls spaced from one another by a connecting type face. The type element is multipositional within the typebar segment of the typewriter. A camming means is pivotally supported between the spaced walls. A spring, attached to the camming means biases the camming means into locking engagement with the typebar when the type element is assembled on the free end of the typebar. The spring compensates for any wear on the camming means to prevent the camming means from disengaging from the typebar. The type element is thereby prevented from flying off the typebar when the typebar is in flight or from becoming loose from repeated printing operations. |

A changeable type head is provided that can be positively locked on a typebar of a typing machine. The changeable type head includes a U-shaped body portion adapted to envelop the rear and side surfaces of the typebar. A lug in the apex of the U-shaped body portion seats in a notch in the rear surface of the typebar. Cooperating with the lug and mating notch is a lever pivotally mounted between the side walls of the U-shaped body portion. The lever has a handle and a cam surface that presses the typebar against the apex of the U when the lever is in a lock position as indicated by upward projection of the handle. The U-shaped body portion is triangular-shaped as viewed from the side to reduce moments of force upon impact of a type character.

Type elements bearing special types thereon are constructed for snap-on application onto a type lever in a manner so that any such type head, when applied, becomes solidly secure on the type lever, except in a direction counter to that in which centrifugal force tends to have a throw-off effect thereon. Flexibly displaceable means allow the type heads to be readily moved into and out of applied position. In conformance with the applicable type heads, there are character bearing caps adapted to be snapped onto and off type keys.

A type bar head for typewriters is provided with an interchangeable typeblock formed in a single piece of flexible plastic material covered with a deposit of metal. The type block is provided with a pair of flanges having a pair of wedge shaped projections engaging two chamfered edges of the type bar to block the type block in a direction perpendicular to the printing surface and with a resilient tongue between the flanges to lock the type block in a direction parallel to the printing surface.
