770,980. Making filters. PUROLATOR PRODUCTS, Inc. July 7, 1955 [Aug. 9, 1954], No. 19743/55. Class 83 (2). [Also in Group I] Round-section wire 34, Fig. 4, is drawn from a reel 33 between rollers 36 to 39 and the ribbon so formed has ribs 21 formed on one broad face by rollers 42, 43. The free end of the ribbon is then temporarily attached to the axially off-set core 50, Fig. 6, of a disc 49 and a cover-plate 54 is secured to the core. When winding is complete the cover-plate 54 is removed and binding wires 56, Fig. 7, are threaded through slots 52, 53 on disc 49 and twisted at 57. The element is then dipped into a brazing bath or, where a fusible coating has previously been applied to the wire, the element is heated, either process serving to bond the turns of ribbon together. The element is then pressed between dies (after removal of the wires 56) to frusto-conical, bowed or dome-like form, and the peripheral edges ground flat by grinding-wheels 62, 63, Fig. 9. Several elements are then assembled in facing pairs about a perforate tube in a filter casing to provide a series of filtrate spaces (see Group I).

766,286. Filters. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. Nov. 1, 1954 [Nov. 5, 1953], No. 31526/54. Class 46. A resin-impregnated pleated paper filter element is formed by first folding a flat sheet of the paper into uniform pleats 24, Fig. 5, bonding it e.g., by means of a layer 34 to a flat rectangular perforated sheet of cone material 26, bending the ends of the latter together and joining them e.g., by a lap strip 36, Fig. 3, thus causing the pleated paper into a cylinder, the end folds being bonded together at 38. The open ends of the pleats are bonded to plates 28, 30, Fig. 1, and the outer folds are surrounded by a perforated wrapper 32 cemented thereto. In use the element 16 so formed is held by a spring 18 and a bolt 14 within a bowl 10 having an inlet 20 and an outlet 22.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pleating method of a filter filtering material, which can prevent formation of pinholes due to electric discharge.SOLUTION: The pleating method of the filter filtering material comprises blowing ionized air toward end faces of a filter filtering material 10 and a pair of blades 5 from lateral sides of the filter filtering material 10 by using static eliminators 30 when pleating the filter filtering material 10 by pressing a pair of the blades 5 toward the filter filtering material 10 from both sides in a thickness direction of the filter filtering material 10. The filter filtering material 10 preferably contains a polytetrafluoroethylene porous film and an air-permeable support material.
67 Filter for removing one or more substances from fluid passing through filter and method for manufacturing the same JP2000340609 2000-11-08 JP2001198425A 2001-07-24 STOYELL RICHARD C; WILLIAMSON KENNETH M; HOPKINS SCOTT D; GEIBEL STEPHEN A; WOLFF TERRY L
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a filter having a large surface area and long life. SOLUTION: A filter member 10 is formed from a material folded so as to form pleats 11 and having a thickness(t) at the inner and outer ends in the radial direction of each of the pleats 11. Therefore, the pleats 11 become slightly round. As a result, a small triangular gap 11f is formed between the opposed inner surfaces 11d of the adjacent leg parts 11a of the pleats 11 at the inner ends in the radial direction of the pleats 11 and a small triangular gap 11g is formed between the opposed outer surfaces 11c of the adjacent leg parts 11b of the pleats 11 at the outer ends in the radial direction of the pleats 11. It is preferable that the heights of these gaps 11f, 11g measured along the height of the pleats 11 are extremely small. As the pleats 11 become sharper, the roundness at the inner and outer ends in the radial direction of the pleats becomes small and the heights of the gaps 11f, 11g also become small and the ratio of the volume between the inner and outer peripheries of the filter member 10 capable of being utilized in filtering also becomes large.

PURPOSE: To produce a filter insert having longitudinally elongated ribs for maintaining the spacings formed in the folding parts of a filter material by deforming the corrugated filter material heated to a specific temp. by the jaws of a forming machine, then heating the filter material to a specific temp. by heating jaws. CONSTITUTION: The tape-like filter material 20 transported in a longitudinal direction for manufacturing the filter insert 4 is contracted by corrugation by as much as the required additional material quantity necessary for the longitudinally elongated ribs 15. The filter material 20 heated to the temp. below the shrinkage temp. of the filter material 20 and above the deformation temp. thereof is subjected to permanent deformation free from internal stresses between the jaws 23 to 26 of the forming machine and is then cooled down to the deformation temp. or below, by which the longitudinally elongated ribs 15 are formed. Further, the linear range of the filter material 20 disposed in order to form folding edges 7 to 14 is heated to the temp. between the deformation temp. and melting temp. by the heating jaws 30, 31 until the rugged characteristic induced by the ribs 15 of the filter material 20 and/or the corrugated deformation thereof is compensated. The filter material is then cooled down to the deformation temp. or below. COPYRIGHT: (C)1991,JPO

PURPOSE:To automatically make a pleated filter paper stuck with an adhesive into a circular shape by heating the adhesive stuck on the filter paper while moving both side parts of the pleated filter paper fed along a guide member by a carrier at different velocities. CONSTITUTION:A pleated filter paper 5 fed from a carrier 6 is sent between a first screw drum 92 and a second screw drum 104. Therefore the crest parts of both drums 92, 104 are fitted between the crest part and the trough part of the filter paper 5. In this state, hot air is fed to the filter paper 5 by a heater 11 and an adhesive is softened. Simultaneously the pitch between the crest part and the trough part of the filter paper 5 is corrected by both the screw part 90 having a constant pitch of a high-speed feeder 9 and the screw part 102 having a small pitch of a low-speed feeder 10 and the filter paper is formed into a circular shape along a circular passage 7 formed by a guide member 8.

PURPOSE:To prevent the strain and fluffing at the time of producing the titled element by crushing the outer peripheral edge part over the specified radial width while heating prior to the introduction of the conical outer peripheral edge part of a formed body into the cavity of the lower die. CONSTITUTION:After a strip filter medium is removed from a mold to from a sectional blank, plural concentric arcuate pleats are formed on the blank by a heated push blade, and the outer peripheral edge and inner peripheral edge of the blank are crushed over the specified width. The blank is then bent along the pleats to form a concentric arcuate wall, and the blank is rolled into a ring to obtain the concentrically arranged annular filter medium formed body 26. Then after the conical outer peripheral edge part of the formed body 26 is introduced into the vertical section 38 of the cavity 32 of the T die 30 of an injection molding machine, the upper die 40 is closed, molten resin is injected into cavities 32 and 34, and the outer peripheral edge part is partially insert-molded in a plastic flange 44 and the outer cylinder 46.

A filter for separating constituent components of fluids includes a plural-layer sheet-like member which is multiply pleated to provide layers of the same or different porosity or to provide structural support layers for pleating a soft or membrane-like filter layer. The multiple layers may be pre-joined or delivered from individual locations to a pneumatic conveyor passage of predetermined cross-section through which the adjacent layers are conveyed by a conveyor gas. The layers are crimped to form pleats by withdrawing the material at a lower linear speed than that at which it is supplied to the passage. Pleating is facilitated by venting the conveyor gas at a passage section of enlarged cross-section. The pleating material is subjected to a hot gas, such as steam, and then cooled by a cooling gas to effect bonding of the layers in the pleated state.
