A power-driven machine is with fed fan shaped sections of filter cloth and a press action forms transverse corrugations, thereby reducing its radial length. At the next stage wedges are inserted into each corrugation and a pantograph linkage operates flexible straps to bend the filter element around a central mandrel to form a semi-circle. The wedges then move outward under the control of a similar linkage to reform the required contour of the corrugation. The filter element is then ready to be bent in a full circle to complete its fabrication. The machine can be adjusted to produce various sizes of element.

PURPOSE:To automatically make a pleated filter paper stuck with an adhesive into a circular shape by heating the adhesive stuck on the filter paper while moving both side parts of the pleated filter paper fed along a guide member by a carrier at different velocities. CONSTITUTION:A pleated filter paper 5 fed from a carrier 6 is sent between a first screw drum 92 and a second screw drum 104. Therefore the crest parts of both drums 92, 104 are fitted between the crest part and the trough part of the filter paper 5. In this state, hot air is fed to the filter paper 5 by a heater 11 and an adhesive is softened. Simultaneously the pitch between the crest part and the trough part of the filter paper 5 is corrected by both the screw part 90 having a constant pitch of a high-speed feeder 9 and the screw part 102 having a small pitch of a low-speed feeder 10 and the filter paper is formed into a circular shape along a circular passage 7 formed by a guide member 8.

PURPOSE: To provide a method and forming device especially suited for forming a workpiece to produce a self-support filter that accelerates workpieces to fill between presser members before forming. CONSTITUTION: This device comprises two presser members 22, 24, each having a corrugated surface for receiving a workpiece made up of generally diamond- shaped pockets. Each presser member is made up of sections 22a, 22b, 24a mounted on slide rods 38 for movement between a spaced-apart position and a closed position, in which a workpiece can be located there between. At a spaced-apart position, a workpiece can be positioned between two presser members, and when changed to the closed position with the workpiece positioned between two presser members, the workpiece is pressed laterally. For holding the pockets in their diamond shape, formers 20 are inserted therein.

PURPOSE:To perform the mass production of circular filter paper generating no deformation, by a method wherein an adhesive is applied to both end parts opposed to each other of filter paper moved by a feed apparatus and both end parts of said paper are brought into contact with each other under pressure in a mutually approaching direction by a pressure contact device. CONSTITUTION:Filter paper formed into a ring shape and having a large number of pleats is supported by a support stand 100 and moved between a mounting and detaching position, where the filter paper 10 is arranged on the support stand 100, and a working position, where an adhesive is applied to the filter paper, by a feed apparatus 200. Further, in an adhesive applying apparatus 400, and adhesive is applied to both end parts opposed to each other of the filter paper 10. A pressure contact apparatus 500 having a pair of opposed pressure contact plates 501A, 501B supports both end parts of the filter paper 10 and presses both end parts coated with the adhesive of the filter paper 10 in a mutually approaching direction. As a result, the mass production of the circular filter paper generating no deformation becomes possible.

Systems and methods for automated fabrication of pleated filters that promote user-selected adjustment of the pleat spacing generated by the system. A lower conveyor of a pleat spacing station is operated at a selected conveyor rate. A gathered pleated segment of filter material is received at the pleat spacing station. The pleat spacing station expands a pleat spacing of the gathered pleated segment in forming a pleated filter segment. Expansion of the pleats at the pleat spacing station is accomplished by initially engaging the filter material along the lower conveyor, with the conveyor rate being alterable by a user, including on the fly alteration, to establish a desired pleat spacing and thus pleat density in the pleated filter.

A filter element for filtering a fluid is provided with a filter bellows made of a filter medium folded along fold edges in a zigzag shape to form folds, wherein the folds extend between oppositely positioned end face edges of the filter bellows. The filter bellows defines a raw side and a clean side of the filter element, wherein a fluid to be filtered flows from the raw side to the clean side. The filter medium has faces that are flowed through by the fluid to be filtered. The filter medium is provided at least on one of the faces that are flowed through with beads extending transversely to the fold edges. In a proper operating state of the filter bellows, the beads effect a flow of at least a portion of the fluid to be filtered in a direction perpendicular to the fold edges.
