21 Reinforced tag and method of manufacturing US10209069 2002-07-30 US20040022999A1 2004-02-05 F. Paul Valenti JR.; John Garber
A method of manufacturing reinforced tags using a press is disclosed which includes providing a continuously moving web of tag material. A web of reinforcing material is also provided and die cut into reinforcing patches. The reinforcing material has a pressure sensitive adhesive thereon. A first portion of the patches is adhered to a first major surface of the continuously moving web of tag material so it extends beyond said first major surface. A second portion of the patches is contacted with a stationary curved surface which folds the patches as they move along the folder so that the second portion is folded around an edge of the tag material and adheres to a second major surface of the web of tag material. A hole is then cut in each tag unit at a location such that it extends through the patch at a point where it is adhered to two major surfaces of each tag unit. The web of tag material is then cut into the individual tag units. The patches and the tags both have a transverse dimension which is smaller for the patches than for the tags.
22 Method and apparatus for bonding an additional layer of fabric to a label US10192855 2002-07-11 US20030024634A1 2003-02-06 Frederick August Blackmann
The present invention includes a method for producing individual folded labels having an additional layer of material attached thereto. A ribbon of labels is provided along with an additional strip of material. Pieces of information, such as text or a machine readable-code are applied to the strip of material by printing the same at spaced intervals on the material. The ribbon of labels and the strip of material having the printed information thereon are joined together. The ribbon of labels with the strip of material are subdivided into individual folded labels. The invention also includes a label-making apparatus having a mechanism for advancing a ribbon of labels and a strip of material. A print head prints information, such as text or a machine readable-code, on the strip of material at spaced intervals. A mechanism joins the ribbon of labels with the strip of material. A cutting station subdivides an individual label from the ribbon of labels and strip of material. A sensor in communication with the advance mechanism controls the advance of a length of the ribbon of labels and the strip of material.

A device for feeding colour chips, for a machine which applies them to a backing, comprises a store with one or more compartments for groups of colour chips. Means for collecting and delivering colour chips are selectively movable from a collection position adjacent to the storage means, for collecting a colour chip from each of the groups of colour chips, to a delivery position remote from the storage means. Each compartment comprises an end opening from which, during operation, the collecting and delivery means collect one colour chip at a time. An inner wall of each compartment comprises at least one inclined terminal portion on which the colour chips rest during operation.

31 Method for preparing a scored flexible structure, and method for making a flexible packaging structure having a built-in open and reclose feature US13608360 2012-09-10 US09162414B2 2015-10-20 Scott W. Huffer; Rod Pettis
A method for preparing a scored flexible structure that has utility in the construction of packaging structures, including steps of: (i) providing a structure as a web of flexible material; (ii) enhancing a thickness of the structure in a discrete region thereof by applying a substantially all-solids electron-beam-curable polymer material in fluid form onto the discrete region, the discrete region occupying a minor percentage of a total surface area of the structure; (iii) curing the polymer material by irradiating the polymer material with an electron beam, thereby forming an EB-cured polymer region; and (iv) forming a score line through a thickness of the EB-cured polymer region and through the thickness of the structure.
32 Reinforcement of hang tags US13102492 2011-05-06 US08967574B2 2015-03-03 Ian J. Forster
Hang tags are provided for mounting on merchandise in a retail setting. The hang tags include a card with a plurality of edges, with a region of reinforcing material located at or adjacent to the top edge of the card, surrounding an aperture through which a fastener is received. The region defines the shape of a pair of intersecting elongated shapes such as ovals or ellipses, thereby positioning the reinforcing material in the locations where it is most needed to prevent theft-based removal of the tag from the merchandise, while omitting reinforcing material from the locations where it is not needed. Also provided is an attachment device, such as an applicator gun, for substantially simultaneously applying the reinforcing material to the tag and fastening the tag to a piece of merchandise.

34 Method for making surveillance devices with multiple capacitors US12467121 2009-05-15 US08296943B2 2012-10-30 Patrick Smith; Criswell Choi; James Montague Cleeves; Vivek Subramanian; Arvind Kamath; Steven Molesa
The present invention relates to surveillance and/or identification devices having capacitors connected in parallel or in series, and methods of making and using such devices. Devices with capacitors connected in parallel, where one capacitor is fabricated with a relatively thick capacitor dielectric and another is fabricated with a relatively thin capacitor dielectric achieve both a high-precision capacitance and a low breakdown voltage for relatively easy surveillance tag deactivation. Devices with capacitors connected in series result in increased lateral dimensions of a small capacitor. This makes the capacitor easier to fabricate using techniques that may have relatively limited resolution capabilities.
