A machine for forming a corrugated package from sheet material including a rotatable corrugation head having a fluted periphery and a front face; corrugating means and sealing means movable into association with the head for corrugating an inner sheet material and sealing two plys of material together, respectively; means for feeding an inner sheet having a selected length and width to the head adjacent said corrugating means and means for feeding an outer sheet having a selected length and width to the head adjacent the sealing means; means for moving a bottom wall member having a selected shape into engagement with the front face of the head and associated with the first and second sheets to form the bottom wall of the package; and means to control the operation of said machine so that the rotation of said head and the function of the above-described components are coordinated to form a corrugated side wall of the package from two sheets simultaneously with the joinder of said side wall with the bottom wall member. The method of forming a corrugated package pursuant to this invention comprises the steps of corrugating an inner sheet of material having a selected width and length into fluted corrugations while forming the sheet into a shape defining a portion of the package side wall; positioning a bottom wall member having an outer edge adjacent the corrugated inner sheet; wrapping an outer sheet of material having a width greater than the width of the inner sheet around the corrugated inner sheet so that a portion of the outer sheet projects over the outer edge of the bottom wall member and; simultaneously joining the outer sheet to the inner sheet and to said bottom wall member so that said sheets form plys of a corrugated side wall and are joined to said bottom wall member to produce a corrugated package. |

The objects of the invention are the manufacture of drawn foil containers which have better appearance and strength and which can be made with these advantages from thinner foil and with greater depth. The essential apparatus employed to achieve these objects having a punch for drawing the container, is characterized by upper and lower peripheral guide structures located around the punch which present a plurality of intercalating radially aligned ridge formations for forming in accordance with the process alternate upwardly and downwardly directed light indentations in a flat foil blank before it is drawn and lightly guiding the indented blank to fold into double fold pleats which are thereafter drawn over a drawing edge to form the walls of the container. The container produced is characterized by double fold pleats in its walls. |

An article forming system for forming at least one sheet of material into an article, such as a decorative flower pot cover for example, and a novel article formed utilizing such a system. The article forming system includes a male die, a female die and a platform having a support surface and an opening extending through the support surface. The female die is disposed generally within the opening in the platform with the upper end of the female die being disposed near the support surface. The article forming system includes means for slidingly holding portions of the sheet of material generally against portions of the support surface while permitting such held portions to slide on the support surface during the forming of the article for cooperating in forming a decorative border on the decorative flower pot cover type of article which flares generally away from the flower pot object when the decorative flower pot cover article is applied to the flower pot. The article formed in accordance with the present invention includes overlapping folds formed by overlapping portions of the sheet of material to bring portions of the sheet of material into bondable contact, the overlapping folds providing the mechanical strength necessary for the formed sheet of material to hold a predetermined shape thereby permitting the utilization of thinner sheets of material to form articles. |

Sheets and rolls of sheets with labels having multiple choice blocks and information areas corresponding to the choice blocks. The sheets include a closure bonding material for securing the sheets around items to be wrapped. The labels are detachably connected to the sheets with an adhesive, a perforation or a tear line. Spots of closure bonding material may be placed on the labels to hold the labels in a wrapped position. The information areas typically include data which may be selected to describe the source, type and characteristics of the items to be wrapped in the sheets. The sheets may also include detachable sleeve areas for protecting wrapped items during shipping and handle areas which may be punched out of the sheets for grasping the wrapped items. The handle areas may also contain information similar to that on the detachable labels. Sheets having labels with choice blocks may also be used for forming flower pots or flower pot covers. By providing such labels on the unformed sheets, it is not necessary to add tags or labels after the sheets are formed into flower pots or flower pot covers. |

An apparatus with pivoting blades and closable surfaces for forming a sheet of material into a flower pot or flower pot cover having fins. In an embodiment for forming outwardly extending fins, the apparatus includes a male mold and a plurality of plates arranged in pairs to define a forming opening. The male mold has a plurality of fingers which are laterally extendable from the outer periphery of the male mold. A pneumatic or hydraulic piston and cylinder is provided to move the male mold between a storage position spaced from the forming opening and a forming position within the forming opening. Each pair of plates is movable between an open position and a closed position. In operation, the fingers are extended to push folded portions of a sheet of material between the pairs of plates, which are closed to press the folded portions into fins. In an alternate embodiment for forming outwardly extending fins, pairs of movable plates are positioned between stationary segments. The plates move away from one another to press folded portions of a sheet of material against the adjoining stationary segments to form fins. In another embodiment, a female mold having closable female segments cooperates with blades which are pivotable between the female segments to produce outwardly extending fins. In an apparatus for forming inwardly extending fins, blades are pivoted to push folded portions of a sheet of material between segments of a male mold. |
