11 Tri-fold side seamed plastic produce bag and method for making same US14263794 2014-04-28 US09725211B2 2017-08-08 Greg Tan
A trifold side seamed film produce bag includes a front wall and a back wall, first and second side edges sealed together and a seamless bag bottom. The bag is joined at the side edges to additional bags by a perforation. The bag is corona treated on at least one wall and promotional material is printed on the treated surface. The bags are folded to one third of their height to fit compact bag roll dispensers. The bags are folded in a Z-fold or C-fold configuration. The method includes manufacturing the bags and winding them onto cores or forming the bags into coreless rolls. An apparatus for forming the side seamed bags includes an extruder, a tubing flattener, a perforator, a sealer, a corona treater, a printer and a slitter. The treated, printed bags may be stored on rolls for later slitting into two bag streams and folding into thirds.

A trifold side seamed plastic produce bag includes a front wall and a taller back wall, first and second side edges sealed together and a seamless bag bottom. The taller back wall provides means for finding the bag opening. The method and apparatus for producing the bags includes a slitter that removes a strip of plastic from only the top layer of the bag stream to form an extended flap on each bag. The method includes manufacturing the bags and winding them onto cores or forming the bags into coreless rolls.

16 Process for making packaging materials US196969 1998-11-20 US6035611A 2000-03-14 Hershey Lerner
A process of manufacturing webs of side connected bags is disclosed. A tube of heat sealable material is flattened and spaced, transverse seals are formed from one edge of the tube toward the other to delineate bag sides. Thereafter, the seals are bisected by lines of weakness to facilitate separation of sides of adjacent bags. Longitudinal lines of weakness are formed immediately adjacent the seals to delineate the tops of bag faces and backs and a separate top or lip section.
17 Apparatus and method for fabricating containers US36728 1998-03-09 US6024683A 2000-02-15 Kenneth R. Wilkes
A pouch making machine which simultaneously creates perimeter seams for a plurality of pouches on a web and temporarily stores the seamed web in an accumulator at the conclusion of the seaming step, and then withdraws the web from the accumulator to sever the individual pouches from the web. The individual pouches are severed from the web by a cutoff knife that is moving at the same velocity as the web during the cut. The withdrawal of the web from the accumulator is carried on independent of the seaming step, except that regulating means is included to make the long term average web speed the same through the seaming step as through the cutoff step.

The present invention is an apparatus for manufacturing interconnected, easily separable, protective pouches, made from heat-sealable material, and adapted to enclose and protect objects. The pouches are made by feeding a continuous sheet of heat-sealable material through a folding unit, folding the material approximately in half, perforating and heat-sealing the sheet across the width of the sheet, moving the sheet downstream the length of the opening for the pouch, heat-sealing across the sheet, moving the sheet downstream the length of the edge allowances for the pouch, and repeating the steps until the desired number of pouches have been produced. The finished pouches are collected on rewind rolls.
19 Method for making a non-peelable, sterilizable bag US885641 1997-06-30 US5976299A 1999-11-02 Brian W. Ivey
A method for making a non-peelable, sterilizable receptacle having a low particulate count for receiving articles for storage in pharmaceutical intermediate processing. This method involves providing a continuous first web of polyolefin film, providing a continuous second porous web of spun-bonded polyolefin film. The webs are advanced through cleaning processes that include an anti-static device, an ultrasonic vibrating device and a vacuum device. The two clean webs are then brought together and passed into the heat sealing section. The webs are heated welded together by forming continuous seams on the webs to form an open pouch. The seams are made by applying opposing platens at a pressure between about 30 to about 40 psi to both the webs and a heat welding element at a temperature of about 330.degree. to about 380.degree. F. against only the first web. This causes the first web to melt into the pores of the second web. The seams are then cooled to produce a welded seam having a pull resistance of greater than five pounds per linear inch. The webs welded are then cut in between the seams to form the receptacle.
