A description is given of a wood trimming machine, in particular a machine for edging logs of wood, comprising a machine frame, two lateral cutting tools for cutting the log of wood on two sides that are not adjacent, conveying means for transporting the log of wood for the cutting, separating means for separating the offcuts or chips on both sides of the cut log of wood and cutting means for cutting at least one of the sides of the cut log of wood that is adjacent to the two cut sides. The separating means consist of flat plates which are inclined in relation to the working surface and raise the offcuts or chips above the cutting tools of the third side of the log of wood.
5 Band saw for cutting multiple boards simultaneously EP99630009.1 1999-01-19 EP0930138A2 1999-07-21 Baker, Edward L.

The resaw (1) includes a frame (3) having at least one head (25). The head includes a horizontal mounting beam (43) with four wheels (57,59,61,63) operatively mounted to the mounting beam (43). The wheels comprise an inner pair of wheels (61,63) and an outer pair of wheels (57,59). The centers of the inner wheels are vertically offset from the center of the outer wheels. A band saw blade (29) is mounted about the four wheels to define a first blade portion (65) and a second blade portion (67) which are spaced from each other. A single head (25) can simultaneously make two slices in a cant (19) to cut two or more boards from the cant. The inner and outer wheels can be moved as a unit relative to the path of travel of a cant and the inner wheels can be moved relative to the outer wheels to enable adjustment of the thickness of the boards cut from the cant. In variations, the resaw can have two heads (25,27) and each head can have one, two, or more blades (29,31). With a two head resaw, four slices can simultaneously be made in the cant. Where each of the two head resaw has two band blades, eight slices can simultaneously be cut in the cant.

7 SAWMILL CARRIAGE ASSEMBLY US16000247 2018-06-05 US20180345524A1 2018-12-06 Sebastien CABRIT; Ashlynne DALE; Brian SHELLSWELL
A method for constructing a lower section of a sawmill carriage assembly comprises holding structural components between a pair of metal plates, and affixing the plates and the structural components together. The structural components may include wheels that guide the sawhead in linear movement along a track on a sawmill bed, to which the carriage base is attached. The structural components may also include a track cleaning system disposed between the metal plates. The track cleaning system maintains optimal track conditions.
8 System For Adjusting The Cut Thickness Of A Band Saw US14818634 2015-08-05 US20160039022A1 2016-02-11 Douglas Carden
A system for positioning the cutting edge of a band saw blade at a desired vertical height with respect to a log. The system includes a frame bed for retaining a log in a fixed position. A powered horizontal trolley moves the band saw along a generally horizontal path to cut a board from a log and a powered vertical trolley moves the cutting edge of the saw blade vertically. A sensing arm pivotally on the vertical trolley has a distal end that rides along the log during the cutting process. The system senses the position of the sensing arm as it rises to control the position of the vertical trolley. An adjustment system allows the user to set the depth of cut of the cutting edge of the saw blade.

12 Sawmill method and apparatus with edge scanning means US877942 1992-04-30 US5254859A 1993-10-19 George M. Carman; Mark L. Carter
A flitch or cant is successively transported by a pair of differentially operated clamps, first to a scanning station, and then to a sawing station where the wane is removed. A series of flitches are processed in this manner such that as the wane edge from a first flitch is sawn, a next flitch in succession is optically scanned. The sawing and scanning is accomplished by means of a combination saw and scanner which moves in a direction longitudinal of the flitch as respective flitches are held in stationary positions at the sawing station and at the scanning station. Between passes of the saw-scanner combination, the sawn flitch is conveyed away and the next flitch in line is conveyed forwardly to the sawing position while being skewed by the clamps in accordance with the characterization generated by the scanner. The scanner extends outwardly from the side edges of the flitch to provide a radiation beam directed obliquely inwardly and downwardly from a point displaced along the flitch from the location where the radiation image intersects the flitch and provides a line image. Television cameras also disposed to the side of the flitch view the line image at an oblique angle, but the cameras are positioned along the flitch in a second direction opposite the direction where the radiation source was located. The cameras "see" the line images on the side edge of a flitch substantially face on.
13 Sawmill with hydraulically actuated components US131121 1987-12-10 US4930386A 1990-06-05 Donald R. Laskowski; Daniel R. Tekulve
A sawmill has an elongated track extending longitudinally adjacent a platform for supporting a log. A carriage which carries a bandsaw is reciprocally movable along the track past the platform to cut the log with the bandsaw. The sawmill also has a clamp mechanism reciprocally movable laterally across the platform to clamp the log in place, which mechanism is movable between an upright position and a reclining position to provide a clamp for an uncut log and a clamp for a squared log. The sawmill also has a log turning mechanism and a log loading mechanism. The log loading mechanism includes two arms which are rotatable from the ground to the platform to load a log onto the platform. A hydraulic cylinder is coupled to each arm and acts against the ground to move the arms. The mechanisms are hydraulically actuated and the sawmill includes an electric motor which drives a hydraulic pump for providing pressurized hydraulic fluid to actuate the hydraulically actuated mechanisms. A source of electricity for powering the electric motor is carried on the carriage and is interlocked to the electric motor such that electricity is provided to the electric motor only when the carriage is in a predetermined position which is preferably at one end of the track.

A portable sawmill (20) having a frame (22) adapted to be disposed transversely of a log (24). A pair of horizontally spaced apart wheels (26a,b) are adapted to straddle the log (24). The wheels (26a,b) are rotatably supported by the frame (22) for rotation in a substantially vertical plane. A band saw blade (28) is trained around the wheels (26a,b) and for movement transversely of the log (24). An engine (30) is provided for rotating at least one of the wheels (26a,b) to cause the band saw blade (28) to form a cut in the log (24) as the frame (22) is moved longitudinally along the log (24). An elevating assembly (44) is provided for supporting the frame (22) so as to enable vertical adjustment of the band saw blade (28) relative to a top surface of the log (24). Guide rollers (40) are interconnected through the frame (22) for guiding the frame (22) along the log (24).
15 Portable board mill US245037 1980-03-18 US4333236A 1982-06-08 Joseph R. Lovas; Paul J. Lovas; Carl F. Koelmel
Apparatus for in-forest cutting of lumber from felled logs is provided. The apparatus comprises a frame mounting a pair of wheels around which is trained a band saw blade. A chain saw engine is releasably connected to the frame and is coupled to one of the wheels for driving the saw blade. A carriage is mounted to the frame and is adapted to extend lengthwise of the log to enable the frame to be advanced along the log as the saw blade cuts. The carriage has a series of resilient rollers which cooperate with blade guide and stabilizer assemblies to provide a straight cut. Handles are provided at opposite ends of the frame to enable workmen to mount and to dismount the apparatus and to advance the same along the log.
