Alternatively, the A forming head is also mounted to the cassette base.
26 Device for bending an extremity of a torsional spring US10153002 2002-05-22 US06681809B2 2004-01-27 Normand Savard; Guillaume Allen; Philippe Larochelle
A device for bending an extremity of a torsional spring. The device includes a base plate; at least one flange projecting from the base plate; at least one bulge projecting from the at least one flange; a lever arm pivotally mounted onto the at least one flange about a first pivot axis; and at least one cam pivotally mounted onto the lever arm about a second pivot axis. The lever arm is operable between first and second positions and each cam has a contact surface being positioned for operatively cooperating with a corresponding bulge. Prior to the bending operation, the extremity of the torsional spring is inserted between a given bulge and the contact surface of a corresponding cam when the lever arm is in the first position. In operation, the extremity of the spring is bent about the given bulge by the contact surface of the corresponding cam when the contact surface is urged towards the bulge and forced about the same over the extremity of the spring as the lever arm is operated into the second position. The device enables an easier, simpler and more cost effective way of bending an extremity of a torsional spring, without the use of heat for bending the spring tail, and may be easily transportable from one site to another. Moreover, the device can be used for bending the extremities of torsional springs having different wire sizes.

31 Apparatus for coiling springs with tucked ends US520634 1990-05-08 US4986103A 1991-01-22 D. John Jacobson
A coiling machine employs an apparatus wherein a coil spring having tucked ends may be formed at the coil forming station. After the helical coil is formed, a slider member engages the next to the last formed loop of the coil and forces the loop over the trailing or last formed loop of the coil. The coil is then severed from the wire supply so as to form a coil spring having a tucked trailing end.
32 Method of and an apparatus for forming tension springs with German type hooks US845550 1986-03-28 US4680950A 1987-07-21 Yozo Ohdai; Norifumi Abiru; Eiji Ohbayashi
A method of and an apparatus for continuously and automatically forming tension springs each provided at the opposite ends with German type hooks. Several forming tools are mounted on rocker arms which swing about respective axes offset from and perpendicular to a central axis of a wire guide. A wire stock is intermittenly fed by feed rolls to a wire guide to pass the wire guide. When the wire stock is positioned in front of the wire guide, it is acted upon by the forming tools to form a first hook a body coil and a second hook. Among the tools, a second forming tool forms hooks and a body coil, and a third forming tool twists and forces a leading end of a body coil toward a position offset from a surface of coil forming on the second forming tool when a one fourth of an initial turn of the body coil is formed. A stationary abutment tool bears against the leading end of the body coil which is displaced by the third forming tool. A first forming tool bends by more than 90 degrees a first hook or a linear portion of the first hook interposed between the third forming tool and the abutment tool. These forming tools are timingly actuated by a cam mechanism.
33 Machines for the manufacture of springs fitted with eyelets or hooks US921406 1978-07-03 US4147048A 1979-04-03 Jacques Herckelbout
The invention relates to machines, for the manufacture of springs, of the type which produce springs with a hook in a plane passing through the axis of said spring at one end, and a hook lying in the extension of the last turn of the spiral at the other end. The improvement is that means are provided for transferring the roughed-out spring in front of a device, for straightening the second hook, which is angularly displaced in relation to the machine, the transfer being effected by an axial movement of the blank, followed by rotation, and ending with a further axial movement.
34 Apparatus for severing and deforming the ends of helical binders for pads or the like US821177 1977-08-02 US4095623A 1978-06-20 Jorn-Uwe Lemburg; Dieter Stolley
Apparatus for looping the free end portions of the outermost convolutions of helical binders which are threaded through the perforations of a stack of loose leaves has a pivotable tool with a cutting edge which clips the end convolution of a properly located binder and a bending edge which bends the free end portion of the clipped end convolution over the neighboring convolution. A rotary loop forming device is thereupon actuated by a lever to convert the deformed end portion into a loop which surrounds the neighboring convolution. The loop forming device has a guide face which cooperates with a parallel second guide face provided on a reciprocable hold-down device which is caused to extend between the end convolution and the neighboring convolution while the end portion is converted into a loop. These guide faces cooperate with a guide face of a locating projection for the binder and with a guide face of the tool to define a channel which confines the end portion during loop forming so that the loop is located in a plane which includes the axis of the binder. The hold-down device has a notch which receives and prevents deformation of the remaining part of the outermost convolution while the free end portion is being looped around the neighboring convolution.
35 Method for spring assembly US52047274 1974-11-04 US3890687A 1975-06-24 GOLDBERG JOSEPH H
The inventive method and apparatus produces a circular coiled wire spring by joining together and interlacing the successive spring convolutions at the ends of a straight coiled spring. The diameter of the spring wire is slightly greater than the lateral displacement between adjacent convolutions, so that the spring is both tensioned and compressed at the end tips. Thus, there is a very tightly gripped interlock, free of any sharp points or ends. A short rod is inserted within the coiled spring to guide and direct each spring as it winds into and intertwines with the opposite spring end.
