930,554. Metallic fabrics. EDWARD E. JOHNSON Inc. Aug. 31, 1960 [Feb. 12, 1960], No. 30040/60. Class 74 (2). [Also in Group XXII] In making a screen a substantially cylindrical inner unit is rotated about its axis and advanced longitudinally, a thin continuous strip is fed and longitudinally extending portions thereof are bent to form a wire and the wire is secured to the exterior of the inner unit by continuously electric welding without interrupting the feeding and forming of the wire. In making a well screen a strip 8 fed from a coil 9 is formed by rolls 11, 12, to channel sections 14, 15, Fig. 2, and finally by rolls 13 to triangular section wire 16 and the wire is then fed on to a rotating cylinder formed by rods 5, the wire being welded to the rods by an electrode roller 7. The limbs of the section may be spaced apart or the strip may be shaped to pointed U-section, the base of which is welded to the inner cylinder. The strip may be of stainless steel, bronze or brass and the tubular wire may have a core of polyester resin, asbestos or jute. The inner cylinder may be a foraminous tube. The wire section may be such as to provide a slot of U-section widening outwardly. |
