Apparatus, method, and system for combining a plurality of items into a batch having a set number of items. Number of items are put together onto a production line to form a batch along with non-batch items which are not suitable for inclusion within the batch onto the production line. The batch is advanced on the production line as a partial batch without the non-batch item being added to it when a batch is not complete. A reminder batch is created after the non-batch items have been added to the production line and the remainder batch includes the number of items that must be added to the partial batch to make a full batch.

The invention relates to an apparatus for separating cutlery from restaurant waste, and includes a glacis (2) for feeding food waste (17) towards a waste container (3), a stand (1) supporting the waste container (3) and the glacis (2), at least two flaps (6, 6') which are movable between two end positions for separating cutlery from waste (17), at least one detector (8) for sending a signal when an item (7) of cutlery passes over it, and a drive means (10) controlled by the signal such as to cause the flaps (6, 6') to move between their two end positions. At, or immediately under the free end (5) of the glacis (2), the flaps (6, 6') are fastened such as to permit them to move towards or away from each other, thus to provide an extension or a shortening of the glacis (2; 6, 6') for automatic separation and discharge of cutlery items (7) to a cutlery collection receptacle (9) situated in or in connection with the waste container (3).

Method of sorting cutlery, comprising opto-electronic dynamic recognition and identification of the cutlery. The pieces of cutlery are brought forward in a longitudinal direction one by one behind each other on a moving conveyor belt (12). The movement of the belt is precision linked to a pulsator (13), which emits pulses with a frequency that is directly proportional to the speed of the belt. The pieces of cutlery are brought by means of the conveyor belt to pass one by one through an optical read-of unit (14) between a light source (32) and a bar (40) of light-recognising means (33) or light-guiding means (38) which transmit light to light-recognising means. The bar extends at right angles to the direction of movement of the belt, so that it is partially shaded by the cutlery when its passes, whereupon the light-recognising means in the parts of the bar shaded at any moment are inactivated. At a moment of time which is controlled by the pulsator the standstill of activation is recognised for all light-recognising means in the bar. The standstill of activation for at least certain selected moments of time, representing a corresponding number of optical sections of the cutlery, is communicated to a computer (6) in the form of binary words, which each represent the width of the cutlery in the present section and which together with any further data form a digital signalisation of the cutlery. This signalisation is scanned with regard to a number of digital signalisations of the different pieces of cutlery that are to be sorted which have been previously programmed in the computer's memory unit. With accord between the scanned one and any of the programmed cutlery signalisations the cutlery is guided to a box (24A-D) corresponding to this type of cutlery or correspondingly. The invention also concerns the apparatus for the execution of the method.

118 | A cutlery sorting machine | EP86850272 | 1986-08-08 | EP0213100A3 | 1988-02-03 | Swallert, Sven |
The invention relates to a machine for sorting substantially rod-shaped articles or items (3 - 6) of magnetic material in accordance with the respective lengths of the items, preferably items of cutlery such as knives, forks, and spoons. The machine includes a transporting arrangement (1) which comprises magnetic collecting elements (2) which attract magnetically the ends of respective items and carry the items past a plurality of underlying magnetic delivery elements (11 - 14) with the items hanging vertically from the collecting elements (2). When seen in the direction of movement of the collecting elements (2) the delivery rods (11 - 14) are spaced at a progressively diminishing distance from the movement path of the collecting rods (2), this distance being adapted so that the lower ends of the longest items (3) come into contact with the first delivery elements (11) and are drawn loose from a respective collecting element (2) thereby, this procedure being repeated at each classifying station in turn until the shortest item (6) comes into contact with the last, commensurately spaced delivery element (14) and its drawn loose thereby. |

@ Apparatus for separating cutlery from restaurant waste. A hopper (1) forms a chute and is adapted to be placed above the opening of a waste container. In the hopper there is a sloping surface (2) on which the waste is tipped, there being an opening (3) at the lower portion of the surface. A flap (16) arranged in the hopper is pivotable between two positions, namely a first position (18) for closing off the opening (3) and a second position (19) for uncovering the opening. An electical switching signal from an inductive type probe (4) controls a drive means (17) for pivoting the flap between the first and second positions. The probe (4) is placed on the underside of the sloping surface (2). |
