A consumable spice-containing film for covering or encasing foods. The film comprises a consumable carrier film having a polymer matrix which, as a polymeric base material, contains a polymer which is water-soluble or is soluble in an ethanol-water mixture, or a mixture of at least two such polymers. The carrier film has a smooth bottom side and a top side opposite the bottom side. The top side is provided with a coating of spice particles. The predominant fraction of the spice particles adheres to the surface of the carrier film and penetrates into this only partially, but is not completely enclosed within the carrier film.

The invention relates to a single- or multilayer, flat or tubular food casing incorporating a carrier based on a water-insoluble, thermoplastic polymer, a polymer of animal or vegetable origin or regenerated or precipitated cellulose, and a coating. The carrier is a textile material or a film or a combination thereof. The coating includes binder and particulate foods with a mean particle size of 60 μm or more, optionally also food additives such as food colorings and liquid smoke. It additionally relates to a process for producing the casing and to its use as an outer casing for fish, meat and sausage products.

The invention relates to a co-extruded thermoplastic foodstuff sleeve made from at least two layers, including an outer layer (Z), with a porosity of at least 5 vol. %, measured as bubbles or pores essentially in the plane at the surface. The surface of the outer layer (Z) comprises an open pore or/and a cratered surface structure and a mean roughness RZ of at least 5.0 µm. On production of the foodstuff sleeve, a propellant or propellant gas is introduced before the extrusion, or the composition is selected such that, in the plastic mass, gas is generated by chemical reaction of the components. The melt is foamed by means of pressure release on or/and after escape from the extruder, whereby at least a part of the gas forms pores or bubbles which are at least partly retained in the hardening melt or at the surface thereof. The invention further relates to a production method, whereby at least two plastic components are used for the outer layer (Z) and, optionally, for at least one further layer. The at least two plastic components comprise clearly different properties and only bond to each other with difficulty, such that at the boundary surfaces between the components pores and/or bubbles are generated, which are at least partly retained in the hardening melt, or at the surface thereof.

Disclosed is a synthetic tubular casing for food products with an inhomogeneous in respect to thickness outer layer having a relief fibrous-netlike structure, and having a reduced tendency to disrupt when its surface is disturbed. The relief fibrous-netlike structure is formed by alternating of thinner and thicker regions, wherein the maximum thickness of the layer in the thicker region is 80 µm, in the thinner region this layer may be thinned up to zero. The outer layer is made from a polymer or a mixture of polymers, each of which has a melt flow index from 0.2 to 15 g/10 min, measured according to ASTM D 1238 A. The synthetic casing may comprise two or more layers, and is used as a casing for various types of sausage products and processed cheeses.
