112 AEROBIC STRENGTH APPARATUS EP94918074 1994-05-23 EP0702582A4 1997-09-03 EHRENFRIED TED R; EHRENFRIED SCOTT A
This aerobic apparatus has a motor (10) that drives shaft (5) in a clockwise direction. Ends of output shaft (5) are connected to a frame by pillow blocks (3, 4). One-way clutch bearings (6, 7) prevent counterclockwise rotation of shaft (5) relative to pillow blocks (3, 4). A force drum (11) is fixed to worm gear box (1) coaxially with shaft (5). The midpoint of force cable (20) is fixed to force drum (11). Ends of force cable (20) are sheaved through spring resisted pulleys (19, 25). One end of force cable (20) is fixed to the frame, the other end is connected to a rewind device (30). Speed control drums (36, 37) are mounted on output shaft (5) by one-way clutches (39, 40) which prevent clockwise rotation of speed control drums (36, 37) relative to shaft (5). User cable (46) is fixed to both speed control drums (36, 37). The intermediate portion of user cable (46) is sheaved through spring resisted pulley (45).

117 A vertical jump exercise apparatus EP89109755.2 1989-05-30 EP0344723A2 1989-12-06 Wehrell, Michael A.

A vertical jump exercise apparatus is proposed to train and condition participants in sports demanding a high degree of vertical jumping ability. Elastic cords (20) fastened to the waist of the user provide a nearly constant resistive force, thereby simulating increased body weight to strengthen leg muscles and to improve motor reflexes. Generation of the nearly constant force is accomplished by directing one or more of the elastic cords beneath or away from the exercise area (12), thus allowing use of an increased length of cord. Directional control for the jumper, cord following to prevent fouling of the cord, and reduced friction are provided by movable tracking assemblies (40) that may pivot or move linearly and may be provided with pulleys. The tracking assemblies may also serve as force imbalance indicators for the elastic cords.
