Apparatuses, methods, and systems for increasing flexibility and/or stretching the muscles of a user generally comprise a user support set atop an enclosure. The enclosure houses mechanisms to actuate a cable system, wherein the mechanisms at least one of feed and retract a cable of the cable system. The apparatuses, methods, and systems also comprise footholds proximate to the user support to support at least the feet from a user, wherein the cable system actuates between the footholds, and wherein the footholds actuate in at least a lateral motion to further accentuate increasing flexibility and/or stretching the muscles. The apparatuses, methods, and systems also comprise a control handle coupled to the cable system for the user to grasp, wherein the cable system actuates to either one of increase and release a tension to the grasped control handle, and wherein the control handle comprises at least one control to regulate the either one of increase and release the tension. | ||||||

A simulator obtains muscle activities and joint contact forces by a computer simulation according to an operating condition for moving a support base of a passive exercise machine. A condition limiting unit finds intermediate conditions corresponding to desirable muscle activities and joint contact forces from muscle activities and joint contact forces obtained with the simulator according to different operating conditions. A motion simulator moves the support base according to the intermediate conditions. A myoelectric measurement device measures myoelectric potential of a subject supported by the support base. An evaluation device selects an operating condition corresponding to a larger muscle activity quantity from measurement results of muscle activity to define it as an operating condition of the passive exercise machine. |

The invention relates to a stretching apparatus which is used to stretch the posterior muscles and tendons by means of powered stretching movements. The apparatus comprises a body (102), a seat area (101) a moveable handle grip (111) and foot pedals (105). In use grips (111) are moved forward whilst the user keeps his or her legs straight. That movement stretches some of the posterior muscles (including the back and buttock muscles). Further movement of the foot pedals105 toward the user stretches his or her upper and lower leg muscles. The stretching movements could be mechanical, e.g. spring or worm screw actuated, or other power could be used. Electronic control (120) of the apparatus is described. |
