244 A COMMUNICATION SYSTEM, MOBILE DEVICE THEREFOR AND METHODS OF STORING PAGES ON A MOBILE DEVICE EP03729957.5 2003-04-30 EP1512264A1 2005-03-09 NANSI, Shekhar; LIM, Bee, Gek; LAI, Kah, Shin; LI, Yongjia
A mobile telephone (1) is provided with an additional plug-in on its SIM card (2a), in the form of a domestic browser (12) with a domestic site (14). When a mobile user wants to access a page, such as an internet page on his telephone, the domestic browser searches a first file in a domestic site (14a) for the page identifier to see if the page is immediately accessible. If it is, then it retrieves the data from a second file in the domestic site another memory (14b) and' executes it for display. On the other hand, if the page identifier cannot be located in the domestic site (14a), the domestic browser (12) simply returns a negative result, at which point the SIM browser (10) on the SIM card (2a) has the page request transmitted to have the page retrieved from the Internet. The user of the mobile telephone (1) does not determine whether any page is to be saved in the domestic site (14), instead it is determined by the mobile operator or the page writer, by use of codes written into the WML page contents. The operator can also transmit push pages onto the mobile telephone (1) and have them saved, updated or deleted in the domestic site (14) without any user intervention.

246 DISTRIBUTED RADIO SYSTEM WITH MULTIPLE TRANSCEIVERS FOR SIMULCASTING AND SELECTIVE PROCESSING OF RECEIVED SIGNALS EP03713713.0 2003-02-24 EP1479182A1 2004-11-24 JESSE, Mary; HEINONEN, Jari; HOOLE, Elliott; SCHLADETZKY, Brian; VEINTIMILLA, Greg
A distributed radio system with multiple transceivers for simulcasting and selective processing of received signals is provided. The distributed radio system includes a plurality of processing elements and radio frequency transmitter elements interconnected by an Ethernet network. The system designates a number of radio frequency transmitter elements to be elements of a radio frequency simulcast set. The system utilizes relatively few frequency channels, and transmits at very low power levels, and thus causes minimal interference with an existing macrocellular environment. When signals transmitted from a mobile unit are detected by multiple radio receivers, the system is able to select a desired radio receiver signal for processing. When selecting a received signal for processing, the system utilizes a distributed processing technique that performs the selection process throughout several levels. The distributed processing utilized by the selection process may be synchronized. A selection time window may be utilized for making the selection process for the upstream-received data traffic. The system utilizes a centralized data link layer. Transmissions are implemented by a two-level multicast technique. The data transmission traffic is bundled. Selective management of the Ethernet switches is performed by the system.
247 SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR OPTIMIZING BLUETOOTH TRANSMISSIONS TO OVERCOME SIGNAL INTERFERENCE EP03701981.7 2003-01-03 EP1466450A1 2004-10-13 PATTABIRAMAN, Ganesh
Transmissions of a Bluetooth device (102) are optimized to overcome signal interference. Mapping rules (125) dictate different Bluetooth packet types to be used for transmission under various specified conditions including prescribed signal interference characteristics. The Bluetooth device measures signal interference characteristics (112) upon different Bluetooth frequencies. The Bluetooth device identifies messages pending transmission (114A) to one or more remote Bluetooth devices (104), and receives designation of frequencies to be used in transmitting the pending messages to the remote Bluetooth device according to a predetermined frequency hopping scheme (116A). The Bluetooth device applies the mapping rules to conditions including at least the measured signal interference characteristics for the designated frequencies to select Bluetooth packet types for use in transmitting the identified messages to the remote Bluetooth device (Fig. 1).

258 ADAPTIVE FRAME STRUCTURES FOR HYBRID CDMA / TDMA SYSTEM EP01900582.6 2001-01-19 EP1249092A1 2002-10-16 TONG, Wen; PERIYALWAR, Shalini, S.; STRAWCZYNSKI, Leo, L.; ROYER, Claude
The system and method of the present invention uses a plurality of carriers by assigning user terminals to the plurality of carriers so that a minimum grade of service is met and so that throughput is maximized. Each serviced user terminal reports the channel quality of each of a plurality of carriers to a servicing base station(s). The reported channel qualities are then converted to maximum supported data rates for each of the user terminals and each of the carriers. These data rates are then used to allocate data service levels and data rates for each of the user terminals so that a minimum grade of service is met for each of the user terminals. Forward link transmissions, e.g., frames/data packets carried on forward channels (F-CHs), are then constructed and transmitted to meet the allocations.
