A system for managing parking of visiting cars by using caller ID and an ARS(Automatic Response System) and a method therefor are provided to register a telephone number of a resident in order to enable a visitor to receive a parking ticket when parking a car, and automatically conduct a parking checking process once the visitor inputs a serial number of the parking ticket after accessing the ARS through a terminal of the resident's telephone number before parking out. A communication terminal(300) accesses an ARS(200), has a keypad for inputting a parking ticket's serial number, and has a self serial number. The ARS(200) exchanges information between a control device(100) and the terminal(300). A parking ticket issuing machine(400) issues a parking ticket where the serial number is written. Car switch devices(600,700) are switched by a signal of the control device(100) by being installed on the entrance of a parking lot. A parking ticket reader(500) reads the serial number of the parking ticket to send the read number to the control device(100). The ARS(200) confirms a caller ID, and sends the inputted parking ticket number to the control device(100). The control device(100) stores a telephone number of a resident, controls the issuing machine(400) to issue the parking ticket when a visiting car is parked in, receives the caller ID and parking ticket information to store the fact of parking, and decides whether the car is parked in if the serial number of the parking ticket is received from the reader(500), then controls the devices(600,700) according to the set condition.

A television receiver includes telephone network interface circuitry which allows the receiver to receive and process Caller-ID signals for display during the ringing period of the telephone set. The television receiver also includes circuitry which allows a list of priority callers to be entered. In this way, the incoming Caller-ID codes are compared to the telephone numbers of the priority callers. Upon detection, the Caller-ID information of a priority caller is displayed on screen during television viewing. The telephone numbers of those callers not listed as priority callers are not displayed during the ringing period of the telephone. Both displayed and non-displayed telephone numbers which correspond to unanswered telephone calls are stored in a Caller-ID list for display at the user's convenience. In this way, the user is able to enter data to select beforehand which calling telephone numbers are permitted to interrupt his or her television show by displaying Caller-ID information on the screen.

A new data communication system is described which enables data transmission over existing telephone lines at rates higher than possible with existing methods, including conventional modems. By using a novel asymmetric configuration of the two communication endpoints, the currently-accepted maximum theoretical limits on the data rate are no longer applicable. One endpoint is connected directly to a digital telephone network, whereas the other endpoint uses a conventional telephone connection. This reduces the transmission problem to compensation for a single telephone line interface and a single analog local loop. Means of providing this compensation and the required clock synchronization were also created, enabling a practical implementation of the system. The new system can achieve rates up to 64,000 bits-per-second and has broad utility in several active areas including wide-band audio transmission, video transmission, networking, facsimile transmission, and remote computer access.

At a central location a telephone link is established betwen central and remote locations. A decoder at the remote location produces a verification signal in response to an action performed by the person whose presence is to be verified and transmits the verification signal through the telephone line to the central location. The remote telephone is uncoupled from the telephone line while the decoder is coupled to the latter. A normally open switch and a normally closed switch are used for the coupling and uncoupling. The decoder includes a power supply sourced from the telephone line to produce an output voltage when the normally open switch is closed, in response to the decoder times out for a set period. The switches are responsive to this time out period.

A method includes capturing images with an image sensor while switching the shutter speed of the image sensor between a first speed and a second, higher speed. When a captured subject is a barcode, a barcode image is obtained when the shutter speed is the first speed, and barcode information is obtained by decoding the barcode in the image. When a captured subject is a light source, a bright line image including bright lines corresponding to a plurality of exposure lines included in the image sensor is obtained when the shutter speed is the second speed, and a visible light signal is obtained as visible light information by decoding a pattern of the bright lines in the obtained bright line image. The method also includes displaying an image obtained through capturing performed when the shutter speed is the first speed.
