PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electromagnetic relay capable of suppressing generation of an arc when a contact part is opened. SOLUTION: This electromagnetic relay is equipped with an insulating sheet 6 formed like a sheet by a flexible insulating material so that its left end part is connected to a contact 2 and its right end part is hung from the upper side of the contact part 3, and an insulating plate 7 made of an insulator and connected to the right end of the insulating sheet 6. In a state where an electromagnet device 1 is not excited, the insulating plate 7 is held between a movable contact 31 and a stationary contact 32, and if the electromagnet device 1 is excited, the insulating plate 7 is pulled upward and extracted from the space between the movable contact 31 and the stationary contact 32. Generation of the arc is suppressed by the insulating plate 7 when the contact part 3 is opened. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI

PURPOSE: To reduce a contact load caused by an arc and to limit a transient branch current irrespective of an arc extinction device by having a branch conductor for electrically receiving a set of fixed and movable contacts, one arc extinction chamber and an end of the arc. CONSTITUTION: When a contact is closed, a small current I passes through a path C1 including a movable part 12, contacts 12a and 11a, an end 11b of a fixed part 11 and a connection part 11c of the fixed part 11, and flows between terminals 13 and 14. When a device 17 is operated, a conducting part 12 is lifted and the contact 11a is separated from the contact 12a. An arc A1 occurs between these contacts. When a contact spacing exceeds a distance (e) between a fixed surface 21a and a movable surface 18a which are opposite to each other, the arc A1 is changed to an intermediate arc A2. Plasma is produced in a gap having a width (e), and the occurrence and continuation of the arc A2 are facilitated to reduce the load and abrasion of the contacts. At this time, a current passes through a path C2, and flows between the terminals 13 and 14. In addition, the current flows through a resistor having a positive coefficient, and is immediately limited when it exceeds a bending point of resistor characteristics. COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO

113 Decreasing mechanism for frequency of arc generated in electric switch JP16984592 1992-05-18 JPH05325699A 1993-12-10 SANAI HIDEKI
PURPOSE: To decrease frequency of arcs generated in the instant of opening an electric switch so as to maintain mutual contact reliability upon contacts in the switch. CONSTITUTION: An electric switch 1 is constructed in such a manner that a pair of contact segments 3 having their respective contacts 2 may be supported for oscillation by a case 5 via their respective supporting pieces 4, then the contact segments 3 may be pressed against each other by their respective presser bar springs 6 so that the contacts 2 may be brought into contact with each other under predetermined pressure and then the operation of a contact operator member 7 may cause the contacts 2 to be brought in and out of face-to-face contact with each other so as to carry out make-and-break motions. The contact operator member 7 is provided with an inserter 8 made of an insulating material, and also a resistor 9 of large specific resistance. The inserter 8 is then supported by the case 5 in such a manner that it may carry out a rectilinear motion with its head against the head of each of the contact segments 3, and it may therefore be inserted between the contacts 2 and be drawn from therebetween. Although the insertion of the inserter 8 between the contacts 2 causes the contacts 2 to be brought out of contact with each other, the resistor 9 is preset in a position to be brought in slide contact with each of the contacts 2 so that the contacts 2 may be associated electrically with each other, and resistance between the contacts 2 is gradually increased to gradually decrease the volume of an electric current flowing through each of the contacts 2 with the process of inserting the inserter 8 between the contacts 2. This can decrease the frequency of arcs generated both in the instant of bringing the contacts 2 out of contact with each other and in the instant of separating each of the contacts 2 from the resistor 9. PURPOSE: To quickly interrupt a circuit by use of the gas pressure by arc effect by providing a sealed chamber, an insulating shield plate, and a shield plate driving piston. CONSTITUTION: When a short circuit is detected through a trip 74 or bimetal 72 when contacts 28, 30 are closed, and an extinguishing chamber 16 is laid in a uniform pressure through the opening 44 of an insulating shield plate 40, a mechanism 54 is immediately reflected. When the plate 40 is moved to the left through a bar 46, the pressure in the extinguishing chamber 16 is raised by an arc to press a piston 48 to the left, and the plate 40 is inserted between the contacts 28, 30. The insulating plate 40 divides the extinguishing chamber 16 into two parts in this state to house the contacts 20 and 28, 22 and 30 to the individual chambers, respectively, and the arc is extinguished by the rapid increase of pressure. After cooling, the pressure in the extinguishing chamber 16 is reduced, and a circuit breaker is returned again to close position by the rotation of a handle 68. The electromagnetic trip 74 directly acts on the bar 46 to increase the opening speed, and the separation of the contact is more accelerated by the electric repelling force of the contacts 20 and 22. PURPOSE: To securely break an electric current by a method wherein a plate insulating body which is supported by or fixed to a movable iron core which is attracted to a fixed iron core direction by magnetic flux generated via the fixed iron core is inserted between a movable contact and a fixed contact so that the fixed contact is covered. CONSTITUTION: The device in the title is provided with a fixed iron core 39 which consists of a ferromagnetic material which encloses a fixed conductor 44 at a clearance and a movable iron core 41 which is located at a distance from the fixed iron core 39 in the vicinity of this clearance and is attracted toward the fixed iron core 39 by magnetic flux generated via the fixed iron core 39 by a short-circuited current flowing through a circuit breaker. A plate insulating body 40 which is positioned so that it can be moved in a direction perpendicular to an opening direction of a movable contact 6 and inserted into an opening between the movable contact 6 and a fixed contact 5 by jointly operated with the movable iron core 41 when the iron core 41 is attracted. Constitution is made so that when a short-circuited electric current is cut off, the plate insulating body 40 is inserted into an opening between the fixed contact 5 and the movable contact 6. This enables short-circuit to cutoff in a relatively high voltage circuit simply and securely without increasing the breaker size. COPYRIGHT: (C)1989,JPO&Japio
