143 Overmolded key pad and a method of manufacturing JP2010538065 2008-12-05 JP2011507189A 2011-03-03 マイケル ジェイ ウィッティグ; ジョン バーレラ
Described is a keypad and its method of manufacture. In one embodiment, a keypad is provided that includes a substrate having a plurality of donut-shaped recesses located at each site of a button for inputting user information, a plurality of cushions each filled with an incompressible fluid (e.g., water), a flex circuit layer, a plurality of metal membranes and an over-molded thermoplastic elastomer layer. During the over-molding of the thermoplastic elastomer layer, the plurality of cushions filled with an incompressible fluid prevents collapse of the space between the flex circuit layer and the plurality of metal membranes. After the layers of the keypad are assembled, the incompressible fluid is removed which leaves a space between the flex circuit layer and the plurality of metal membranes.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an object capable of obtaining a necessary pushing force and a comfortable sensation of clicking, even if made into a small-sized, in relation to a movable contact, used for a sheet in an electronic device, such as portable telephones. SOLUTION: A portion surrounded by a conically-shaped periphery 21 forms an upwardly expanded spherical-shaped portion 22, in the conical-shaped periphery 21 with its top-viewed outer edge circular being an inclined plane. Both the ends are cut by parallel lines symmetrically with the center line of the circular outer edge, and the intersection of the cut linear edge 23 with the circular edge is chamfered in arcuate manner to form a hyperbolic corner 24 having a substantially oval shape. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a double functional protruding disc push type button switch having a function of feeding back the touch to an operator. SOLUTION: Each of protruding disc contracts 16, 18 of a switch assembly 10 has four tabs 15a, 17a... each, and the tabs 15a, 17a... are housed within a base 20 to facilitate the assembling of the switch and also ensure the operation of the switch 10. The tabs 15a, 15b... of the first protruding disc contact 16 are laid in the state rotated 45° to the tabs 17a, 17b... of the second protruding disc contact 18. Since the switch 10 is sealed, switch terminals 22, 24... can be safely set on an electronic circuit wiring board by various methods. COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate fabrication of a mold, to shorten a time and reduce a cost by forming a domed movable contact in such a manner that its outer peripheral portion is formed into a truncated cone and an inside central portion is formed into a slightly upward expanded sphere, wherein the boundary between both the portions is connected along a gentle curve, and performing switching between the domed movable contact and a center fixed contact disposed under the center of the domed movable contact. SOLUTION: An elastic metal thin plate is drawn into a domed movable contact 10 consisting of an outer peripheral portion 10A formed into a truncated cone and an inside central portion 10B formed into a slightly upward expanded sphere, wherein the boundary between the portions 10A and 10B is connected to each other along a gentle curve. There are prepared several kinds of representative correlation diagrams between a reversal operating force A of the domed movable contact 10 and a ratio h/H of the entire height H to a height (h) of the truncated cone and between a repulsive return force B and an angle θ defined between the bottom surface of the domed movable contact 10 and the inclined surface of the truncated cone of the outer peripheral portion 10A. Consequently, it is possible to set an operating feeling of a switch only by appropriately selecting the height ratio h/H and the angle θ.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a membrane switch structure, wherein a sufficient overstroke is acquired after a contact makes contact with a fixed electrode and contact stability can be realized, and moreover, manufacturing cost is low. SOLUTION: A dome-shaped elastic part 1 having a contact 3 on a top part inner surface is formed by drawing of a flexible insulation material, such as plastic sheet 6. A recess-shaped part 8 as a second elastic part is formed on a top part upper surface of the dome-shaped elastic part 1, and its inner circumferential surface forms a sidewall 9. Such dome-shaped elastic part 1 is attached onto a board 5 so as to cover fixed electrodes 4. Hereupon, when a button 7 is pressed down, the contact 3 makes a contact (surface contact) with the fixed electrodes 4 and thereafter the recess-shaped part 8 and the sidewall 9 become crushed and bent, causing a contact surface between the contact 3 and the fixed electrodes 4 to be enlarged, displacement quantity is increased with a difference portion in level in the recess-shaped part 8 serving as overstroke, and contact stability of a switch operation is enhanced. Because the dome-shaped elastic part 1 is drawn, cost can be reduced. COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the number of parts and reduce the generating rate of inferior product by providing a cylindrical part for constituting an interval between the circumferential edge of each dome and a sheet face of a sheet, projecting a ring projection part surrounding the circumference in the outside of the cylindrical dome in the same projecting direction as the dome, and providing a groove communicating between the domes. SOLUTION: A cylindrical part 23 for constituting an interval D1 between a dome 16 and the sheet surface of a sheet 15 is provided, and a projection part 25 is projected to the outside of the dome 16 of the cylindrical part 23 in such state as approaching thereto in the projecting direction of the dome 16 so as to be formed into a circular ring. A groove 27 communicating the adjoining domes 16 is provided on the sheet surface 16 of the sheet 15 opposed to the projecting direction of the dome. The cylindrical part 23, the ring projection part 25, the groove 27, etc., can provide the stable click sensation and save the space so that the process for cladded with a spacer is dispensed and the misregistration in cladding is eliminated, and so the generating rate of the inferior product ca be reduced. 1430399 Retractive switches BOWMAR INSTRUMENT CORP 20 Dec 1973 [2 Jan 1973] 59172/73 Heading H1N A keyboard switch assembly comprises pushbuttons 22 each of which actuates a resilient, conductive switch device 14 from a rest position to a deflected position in which it interconnects co-planar conductors such as 30-3, 32, Fig. 5, carried by, for example by being printed on, an insulating board 12, at least one other conductor being provided on the board spaced from and co-planar with the first-mentioned conductors and extending under the switch device but having no electrical connection therewith in either of its positions. As shown, the switch device is a snap-acting dome of, for example, square, triangular or circular shape and formed with dimples or projections 64, 66 on its periphery and at the centre thereof respectively, which form contact portions for engaging the conductors. The switching devices are located in apertures 74 in an insulating sheet 16 superimposed on the board 12 and over which is laid a flexible insulating cover sheet 18. The assembly is completed by a cover member 20 which is apertured at 76 for retention and location of the push-buttons. The latter have X-shaped projections 78 which act through the sheet 18 on the switching devices. The conductors and parts thereof which are not engaged by a particular switching device may be covered with an insulating layer (56), Fig. 7 (not shown), and the contact portions of the conductors may be plated with gold on nickel. Fig. 11 shows a modification in which an insulating sheet 82 extends between the sheet 16 and board 12 and has apertures such as 86, 88 which expose the contact portions of the conductors for engagement by the dimples 641, 66 of the switching device 141.
