A switch device including an operating member which is rockably stopped by a case, a rubber spring including four spring sections which are disposed at peripheral edges of the operating member inside the case, respectively, and three switches which are disposed in correspondence with three of the four spring sections. The spring sections are selectively actuated two at a time as a result of rocking the operating member in one direction. In the switch device, the spring sections are actuated and buckled by operating the operating member in order to switch the switches. In addition, the click ratio of the spring section which is not provided with a switch is greater than the click ratios of the spring sections which are provided with the switches. In a conventional switch device, one or two switches are actuated depending on which portion of an operating member is pressed. Therefore, differences in the clicking characteristics are produced. This gives rise to the problem that an operator which operates the operating member experiences a different tactile feel when operating the operating member. A key switch adapted to raise or lower a key top according to need is disclosed. The key switch includes a key top, a link assembly comprised of two link members and operatively connected to the key top, which is retracted by a pressure on the key top and extended by release of the pressure and which has an elastic member at its lower end, an FPC placed on a frame of a keyboard to recognize pressing of the key top, and a plate movably placed on the FPC, to which a lower end of one of the link members is connected, and which has an elastic supporting member being in contact with the elastic member of the link assembly. When the key top is pressed down, the link assembly is retracted while compressing the elastic member of the link assembly and the elastic supporting member of the plate. When the link assembly is further lowered, an elastic resistance of the elastic supporting member is suddenly increased, and thus the elastic member of the first link member is suddenly bent and quickly lowered, thereby affording a click sense to a user and enabling the bent portion of the elastic member to press the FPC.

The link assembly 2 comprises a first link 21 and a second link 22 having legs respectively and is provided with an elastic body applying upward force to the link assembly 2 by the elastic force from the support body 5S. The links are provided with projections or holes in the intermediate parts of the legs respectively, crossed with each other by the connection between the projections and the holes, and journaled thereto so as to open/close the legs. An electronic switch keyboard for typewriters or office machines includes a multiple switch at selected key positions to provide two signal inputs to a utilization device. A first capacitor switch is actuated to provide a first signal upon initial key depression and a second contact switch, common to all selected key positions, is actuated to provide a second signal upon further key depression at the selected key positions. A ground plane forms a portion of the contact switch and further serves to reduce parasitic capacitance and to shield the capacitive switches from stray electrical noise occasioned by the contact switch or other electrical inputs. A dielectric material is used to accurately separate the ground plane from the capacitive switch and further serves as a force spreading device for the contact switch. When the keyboard is used in conjunction with a typewriter, the first signal may be used to effect character selection and printing and the second signal to effect repeated printing of the same character. Consistent with prior mechanical typewriter keyboards, three increasing levels of force are required to be overcome as the key is depressed: a pretravel force, a first switch actuation force, and a second switch actuation force.
