Provided is a dome switch including soldering pads formed at an upper surface of a circuit board and spaced a certain distance from one another, and a dome switch fixed to the soldering pads at two ends of the dome switch. Since the dome switch is directly fixed to the circuit board, even if a degree of fatigue of the dome switch increases due to long term use thereof, it is possible to prevent deformation of the dome switch, thereby increasing the reliability of products.

It is an object of the invention to provide a electromechanical structure comprising an input device and a printed wired board (3, 4), which structure is advantages in terms of manufacturing and offers freedom to the layout design of the printed wired board, the user interface as well as the appearance of the device itself. It is also an object of the invention to provide a electromechanical structure that is compact and facilitates the customizability and upgradability with a new electronic functionality without any need for modifications to the main electronics of the device. This is achieved by integrating the electromechanical assembly with the mechanical cover part of the electronic device by using an injection moulding process to compose an integrated combination (113) which is detachable from the electronic device. More precisely the objects of the invention are achieved by combining the injection mould technologies with the printing of electronic wired boards.

A switch device of reduced thickness is provided for use in motor vehicles or the like in which a switching element in a casing is operated with an operating knob. Such a switch device can be assembled with ease and is stable in the operation of the switching element. Such a switch device may be installed both on the right side and on the left side, while employing one and the same casing, and is therefore low in manufacturing cost. In the switch device, a switching element is provided inside a casing, and is operated with an operating knob provided on the outer surface of the casing. The switching element is secured to the back of the circuit board by soldering its fixing terminals on the side of the surface of the circuit board, and a driven part of the switching element, which is operated with the operating knob, is stuck out on the side of the surface of the circuit board through an opening formed in the latter. A returning mechanism is provided on the surface of the casing at the position corresponding to the inner surface of the operating knob, and protrudes elastically to abut against the operating knob, thereby to return the latter to its original position. A pair of rocking support pins may be mounted on the outer surface of the casing at the positions which are symmetrical with respect to the middle, in the vertical direction, of the outer surface of the casing, and the operating knob will thus be rocked selectively on one of the pair of rocking support pins.
11 Apparatus for selective backlighting of keys of a keyboard US12210 1987-02-06 US4772769A 1988-09-20 William G. Shumate
An apparatus for selective backlighting individual transluscent keys of a terminal keyboard includes a horizontal, double-sided printed circuit board having a number of right angle LEDs equal to the number of backlit keys mounted on its bottom surface. A plurality of clearance holes in the printed circuit board admit a plurality of vertical light pipes that are integral with a transparent substrate. Integral alignment bosses on a bottom surface of the substrate fit precisely in corresponding holes of the printed circuit board. Each light pipe has a rectangular cross section and a 45 degree inclined bottom surface. A horizontal light beam emitted by a LED passes through a vertical wall of a light pipe, strikes its inclined bottom surface, and is reflected up through the light pipe into a recess within a key. The substrate supports a rubber sheet in which the keys are molded and a switch contact layer with printed conductors thereon. Depression of a key presses a conductive shorting pad against the printed conductors, actuating a switch.
12 Click disc switch assembly US564961 1983-12-23 US4539445A 1985-09-03 Gary D. Jabben
There is disclosed a click disc switch assembly comprising a plate-like base having on it electroconductive ink paths including (a) "row" paths each including a respective row of contact pads in a row-and-column matrix of such pads on the base, and (b) "column" paths corresponding to the columns of the matrix and including respective junction pads. Overlying the columns of the matrix are click disc strips secured to the rest of the assembly solely by being adhered to an overlying sheet sealing the top of the assembly. Interposed between the strips and the "row" paths is an insulating layer deposited on the base to cover portions of the row paths while leaving uncovered their junction pads. Each click disc is electrically coupled to the corresponding "column" path on the base by the coming into contact of the disc when depressed to branch segments of a further electroconductive ink path (one for each click disc strip) deposited on the insulate layer and attached through an aperture therein to the junction pad of that "column" path. Variations in the thickness of the paths on the base and on the layer are cancelled out by depositing on the base, below the click discs, pairs of bars of the same thickness as the lead portions of the paths on the base, and by raising the contact pads by an amount equal to the thickness of the paths on the layer. The base is a laminar member comprising an overlying flexible plastic sheet adhered to an underlying stiffening board. The assembly may include a tail for connecting it to other circuitry.
13 Collated cable matrix switch US32715273 1973-01-26 US3886335A 1975-05-27 HENDRICKS JOHN E
In a matrix of switches disposed in rows and columns, a plurality of first discrete conductors are deposited on the surface of a first backing member to extend in a first direction and a plurality of second discrete conductors are deposited on the surface of a second backing member to extend in a second direction. Dielectric spacing means is disposed between the first and second backing members to maintain the first and second conductors in a normally spaced relationship. The spacing means defines a plurality of openings each extending between an associated pair of the first and second conductors which define one of the switches. By pressing the associated pair of conductors into relative engagement through the associated opening in the spacing means, a signal on the associated first conductor is switched to the associated second conductor. The second conductors can extend through a pair of the switches and can be bisected therebetween to increase the number of discrete switches in the matrix without increasing the number of conductors. A bar clamp provides an interface between the switches in the matrix and the electronics associated with the controlled operations. A method for making the matrix of switches includes the steps of providing a spool for each of the backing members, the conductors, and the spacing means, and guiding the conductors and the spacing means in a spaced relationship onto the backing member. This process can be performed at high speed with inexpensive materials to significantly reduce the cost of manufacturing the matrix of switches.
