The present invention relates to a tape transport apparatus and a tape introduction method for forming a magnetic tape into an endless loop by splicing a leader tape to the magnetic tape and running such endless-loop magnetic tape therein. When an endless loop is shaped by splicing the magnetic tape and the leader tape to each other, the starting (front) end of the magnetic tape is drawn out to a splicing position while the front (fore) end of the leader tape is also brought thereto and, after the respective ends are spliced together, the endless loop is moved until the spliced portion between the magnetic tape and the leader tape is shifted to the splicing position for the leader tape. The starting front end of the magnetic tape led by such leader tape is then spliced to the terminal rear end of the magnetic tape, so that an endless loop is formed automatically without the necessity of the performance of operation by hand upon the magnetic tape. |

PURPOSE:To form the endless tape automatically by putting the head part and tail part of the endless tape one over the other by a splicing mechanism part, cutting the tape between the head part and an unnecessary part, and the tail part and a tape remaining part, and then splicing the head part and tail part of this endless tape. CONSTITUTION:After the tape from a tape reel 2 passes through a splicing mechanism 5 and a tape part 4, the head part of the tape is wound around a take-up reel 6 through a resplicing mechanism and the tape is wound until the head part 1c of the endless tape 1b comes to right before the splicing mechanism 5. Simultaneously or after the operation, the tape on this tape reel 2 is sent into the tape part 4 until the tail part 1d of the endless tape 1b passes through the splicing mechanism 5 and the head part 1c and tail part 1d are superposed, cut, and spliced to obtain the endless tape 1b. Consequently, the endless tape 1b can be formed automatically. |

An apparatus for the series production of Moebius ribbons comprises a threading robot having its four degrees of freedom (X,Y,Z,R). A second robot, movable in one direction, with two degrees of freedom (Z',R') is mounted on the first robot. The two robots cooperate to transfer between them a ribbon of delicate material, the ribbon being extracted from the ribbon cartridge and imparted with the 180.degree. twist required for the manufacturing of the Moebius ribbon. |

A device for splicing magnetic tape particularly useful with endless magnetic tape cartridges comprising a splicing block having a cutter guide slot defined therein extending through a tape guideway disposed in the top of the splicing block. A plurality of air ports are located on both sides of the cutter guide slot, the air ports on one side operable independently of the air ports on the other side with means to provide each set of air ports with a source of vacuum suction through the air ports, and a splicing tape holder with vacuum suction means at its base for the holding of splicing tape segments adapted to be maneuvered into a position in the tape guideway to cause the splicing tape segments to make contact with and splice magnetic tape ends disposed in the tape guideway. |

A length of tape is drawn off a reel, passed over the cutting/connecting section of a splicer, passed through a temporary storage vessel and looped back so as to pass over the cutting/connecting section again. The free end is connected to a take up reel. Tape clamps bring the overlapping layers of tape down onto the cutting/connecting section and are then cut. One of the tape clamps is withdrawn while an applicator applies a piece of adheseive tape in a manner which splices a continuous loop of tape. |

Individual segments of splicing tape are prepared at a splice cutting station from a continuous length of foil-thin, self adhering splicing tape. Each thusly prepared splicing-tape segment is transported by a vacuum pickup over to a splicing station at which a spool of magnetic tape has been positioned with the ends of the magnetic tape temporarily held in abutting relation by a vacuum operated, tape hold-down assembly. The vacuum pickup now moves to deposit the segment of splicing tape onto the abutting ends of the magnetic tape, and thereafter releases the vacuum hold on the splicing segment and returns to the splice cutting station to repeat the foregoing sequence. Each time the vacuum pickup moves to pickup a new splicing segment it actuates a cutting blade arranged to make a crosswise cut in the continuous length of the splicing tape that is fed around the circumference of a motor driven cutting wheel, the circumference of which forms a cutting surface carefully selected to enable the blade to reliably sever the foil-thin splicing tape. The individual splicing segments are thus formed by successive crosswise cuts spaced at increments along the length of the splicing tape, with such spacing being determined by controlled, incremental rotation of the cutting wheel during the time that the vacuum pickup is moving to and returning from the splicing station. |

In an endless tape cartridge in which a pinch roller having a larger diameter portion and a smaller diameter portion is pivotably supported such that, when the cartridge is in use, the larger diameter portion abuts under pressure against the tape recorder capstan and the smaller diameter portion abuts under pressure against a pivotably supported press roller which cooperates with the smaller diameter portion to drive the tape and, when the cartridge is not in use, the pinch roller is pivoted away from the press roller, a projection is provided which cooperates with the press roller to grasp the tape firmly when the cartridge is not in use, thereby preventing the tape from getting damaged.

PURPOSE: To put the tape in long-period continuous operation and to utilize the top and reverse surfaces of a tape effectively by constituting a tape drum which has a spiral bypass belt case.
CONSTITUTION: The tape which is sent out of the circumscribed part of the tape drum passes a roller 2, a sound recording and reproduction part 12, and rollers 11, 10, 8, and 7 and is sent out of the inscribed part of the tape drum 9 while wound around the circumscribed part of the tape drum 9, and further wound around the inscribed part of the tape drum 4 after passing the roller 11, sound recording and reproduction part 12, and rollers 2, 5, and 6. At this time, the tape is inverted and twisted by a roller shaft 10 to travel in the inverted state, but the tape travels with the same surface when passed without being inverted, and continuous operation or continuous inverting operation, i.e. utilization of both side of the tape becomes possible. Consequently, the tape is wound and sent out at the same time, so the continuous operation of the tape is enabled.

PURPOSE:To load a magnetic tape of an endless loop without allowing a worker to touch directly the magnetic tape, by constituting the titled device so that a start end and a terminal of the magnetic tape can be connected automatically by a connecting means. CONSTITUTION:A start end of a magnetic tape 3 is drawn out of a reel means 3 and led to a connecting means 22, and on the other hand, a leading end of a leader tape 6 is drawn out of a leader tape containing means 5, led to the connecting means 22, and butted to the start end of the magnetic tape 3. Subsequently, the start end of the magnetic tape 3 and the leading end of the leader tape are connected by the connecting means 22. In the end, by the connecting means 22, the connection of the leading end of the leader tape 6 and the start end of the magnetic tape 3 is connected, the start end of the magnetic tape 3 and the terminal are connected, and the magnetic tape 3 is loaded to a tape running device 1 in a state of an endless loop. In such a way, the magnetic tape can be loaded as an endless loop without touching directly the magnetic tape with a hand. |
