The retentive pressure is that of the threaded portions on the ring. The risk of breakage of e.g. a saphire glass under direct claw contact is eliminated. Stresses are distributed uniformly around the ring to increase resistance to shock. Each claw may either protrude beyond the rim of the case or lie flush with it.
