PURPOSE: To provide a method and device for detachably joining marine anchor chain sections by forming a relief on an inside surface of a half-shell or an outside surface of a member to be joined, and then fixing both members, and then forging the relief portion from the outside to form a relief on the mating member. CONSTITUTION: A link comprises half-links 1, 1 and a half-shell 2. The half-links 1, 1 are formed as a round laminated rod cut so as to have required length. A relief 3 comprising an annular groove of a triangular cross section is formed at both ends of the half-link. On the other hand, a half-shell 2 is formed from a malleable metal into a substantially flat plate so as to form two parallel semi-cylindrical grooves 6 having the same diameter as that of the rod 1. The two half-shells 2 are heated up to a forging temperature, and then are mounted on the end portions of the half-links 1, 1 so as to cover them. The portions of the half-shells abutting the relief 3 of the half-links 1, 1 are forged from the outside to form a relief 8 having the same shape as that of the relief 3 on the inside surface of the half-shell 2. Thus, both the half-links and the half- shells are connected by the relief. Then, they are joined by bolts.
