90 EARTH DRILLING DEVICE EP02744049.4 2002-06-27 EP1402146B1 2007-05-23 Löf, Uno
The invention relates to a drilling tool and a method for down-the-hole drilling, the drilling tool being intended to drill a hole ahead of a following casing tube (13). The drilling tool comprises a central pilot drill bit (20), a reamer (33) and a guide body (12) for steering the drilling tool and casing tube relative to one another. To avoid problems with threaded connections, the guide body (12), reamer (33) and pilot drill bit (20) are mutually formed so that the rotational power is transferred from the guide body (12) to the reamer (33) and from the reamer (33) to the pilot drill bit (20), but without either of the two transfers of rotational power comprising any threaded connection, and so that an essentially radial displacement exists between the guide body (12) and the reamer (33). The construction also facilitates retraction of the reamer (33) without the pilot drill bit also needing to rotate.

97 Flushing means for drilling tools EP90850128.1 1990-04-03 EP0391874A3 1991-04-03 Löf, Stig Uno

A flushing means for drilling tools comprises a guide member (10) carrying a drill bit (20) and being rotatably centered by the mouth of a casing tube (11) which is adapted to follow the drilling tool downhole during drilling. The drill bit (20) has a bit portion (22) that projects laterally beyond and is spaced axially in front of the casing tube (11) so as to drill a hole larger than the casing tube (11). There are external flushing grooves (70,71) on the guide member (10) adapted to lead the outflow of flushing medium and debris from the hole during drilling into the casing tube (11). At least one of these grooves (70) extends from front to rear of the guide member (10). One or more further grooves (71) are open towards said rear while ending blindly into the periphery of the guide member (10) spaced from its front. By retraction of the guide member (10) its front enters the casing tube (11). That closes the blind grooves (71) and an intensified flushing is thus possible via the remaining open grooves (70) that extends from front to rear of the guide member (10). The cutting front (40) of the bit portion (22) is flushed rotatively in counter flow to the rotational drilling direction (8) towards the full length groove (70).

A drilling tool is followed by a casing tube (11) down the drilled hole. The mouth of the casing tube (11) centers rotatably a guide member (10) which receives rotation and impact energy via the interior of the casing tube (11). A drill bit (20) consists integrally of an axially protruding pilot portion (23), a sidewise projecting eccentric portion (22) and a rear shaft (21). The shaft (21) extends pivotally and axially movably into an eccentrically disposed bore (24) in the guide member (10). Axially spaced peripheral end grooves (30,32) extend in opposite direction from an axial cam groove (31) on the shaft (21) and are engaged by a follower (28) in the guide member (10) defining positively the axial and angular movability and positions thereof relative to the drill bit (20). In the forward end groove (32) the follower (28) maintains the drill bit (20) axially in drilling position adjacent to the guide member (10) with the eccentric portion (22) protruding to drill a hole larger than the casing tube (11). In an intermediate position 90° away from the drilling position, the follower (28) enters the cam groove (31) whereby the guide member (10) becomes axially movable the distance between the end grooves (30,32). In a rear axial position the guide member (10) by a continued 90° turn brings the follower (28) into the rear end groove (30) to axially define the retracted position of the drill bit (20), wherein it can be raised or lowered freely through the casing tube (11).
