21 Apparatus for automatically centering an endless band trained over two rolls US841752 1977-10-13 US4173904A 1979-11-13 Silvio Repetto
In an apparatus wherein an endless band is trained over a stationary guide roll and a stretching roll, and a nut-and-spindle mechanism at the ends of the stretching roll can displace the stretching roll in a plane defined by the axes of the rolls when the band is centered on the rolls, the band is automatically centered by two hydraulic double-acting cylinder-piston units. The first unit displaces either end of the stretching roll in the plane and the second unit simultaneously displaces one end in a plane perpendicular thereto. This displacement is effected in response to a control signal from a sensor adjacent each side edge of the band and tripped when the side edge moves into contact therewith as the band moves out of its centered position. The control signal operates a three-way solenoid valve in a hydraulic control circuit for the cylinder-piston units.
22 Follower roll suspension system US491231 1974-07-24 US3966106A 1976-06-29 Adu Randpalu
A follower roll or so-called spring roll system for use with a paper machine has a roll about which the paper web passes on its path through the machine, the web having a wrap angle about the roll of about 90.degree., to exert a horizontal force component against the roll, due to web tension. The roll bearings are each supported on a low friction slide, to permit substantially friction free displacement of the roll horizontally. The position of each roll bearing housing is controlled by an air bag acting as a variable rate spring to oppose displacement of the roll under web tension, with a second air bag opposed thereto, acting as a constant rate displacer, to assist the displacing effects of web tension. The two bearing housings are synchronized in their displacement under web tension variations by a synchronizing shaft extending across the width of the machine and connected with each of the two bearing housings by a rack and pinion arrangement. Rotation of the synchronizing shaft in response to a displacement of the spring roll due to a change in web tension produces a change in a potentiometer or other control device connected with the synchronizing shaft, which potentiometer is connected in speed controlling relation with the paper machine drive, to correct the speed of the machine so as to maintain substantially constant the tension in the web.

PURPOSE: To provide a papermaking machine having a drying part that keeps the tension of a carrier belt for a paper web always constant in operation, without causing the jamming of paper. CONSTITUTION: This papermaking machine has drying groups A, B comprising plural rolls 30 to 35 and 40 to 44, including a guide roll and a tension roll, and carrier belts 9, 10 traveling over the rolls and forming a continuous loop. The guide roll can be displaced to a location parallel to its axis as well as an angle to the direction of movement of the carrier belt. The guide roll and the tension roll are coupled to each other in such a way that, when the guide roll is displaced, the tension roll is simultaneously displaced in such a direction and to such an extent that the carrier belt tension remains at least approximately constant. 25 Press section of papermaking machine and method for decreasing vibration of nip of press section JP27512790 1990-10-13 JPH03152290A 1991-06-28 DEBUITSUDO BUINSENTO RANGE
PURPOSE: To decrease the resonance vibrations in a press section by outputting a signal to change a trade line at a specific change rate to a drive means for an adjustable roll for adjusting the direction of the trade line. CONSTITUTION: A controller 60 outputs the signal to adjust the trade line 80 to the electric drive assemblies 55, 71 so that the direction of the trade line 80 changes gradually to prevent the accumulation of the fluctuation of the nip by resonance as felt repetitively passes the nip, and activates a seam linearizing roll 51 and a curving roll 52. The change in the direction of the trade line 80 is executed by the speed change sufficient for minimizing the burring of the felt and the thickness change of the web.

32 Device and method for regulating the tension of a running web US10861838 2004-06-05 US07059984B2 2006-06-13 Joerg Vaeth
A device serves to regulate the tension of a running belt. The belt is deflected on rollers of which one is designed as a force measuring roller and is connected to a displacement sensing device. This roller is provided with at least one force sensor that determines the force applied to the belt. In addition, this roller is position adjustably held by an actuating drive in order to be able to adjust the tension of the belt. The actuating drive is in an operative connection with a regulating device that is influenced by a correction device. This correction device determines the web tension from the force applied to the belt measured by the force sensor and from the position of the force measuring roller, that changes with the position of the tension regulating roller, and transmits this output as an actual value to the regulating device.

34 Apparatus and method for tensioning a fabric in a paper machine US189115 1994-01-27 US5587052A 1996-12-24 Jukka Autio; Timo Kujala
An apparatus and method for tensioning a fabric in a paper machine, such as a press felt, a drying wire, or an equivalent fabric, including a tensioning roll arranged inside a loop of the fabric. Bearing supports of the roll are fixed, at the driving side and at the operating side of the machine, to sledges. These sledges are displaced by a motor, synchronously in relation to one another, so as to tighten the fabric that runs over the tensioning roll to a certain tension. The sledges are arranged in connection with the frame part of the machine on linear guides, which can be loaded in different directions transverse to the direction of movement of the sledges. In view of displacing the sledges, shafts operated by a motor are journalled on the sledges. The shafts are interconnected by a synchronization shaft between the driving side and the operating side.

36 Apparatus for stretching an endless web US57201 1979-07-13 US4256537A 1981-03-17 Peter P. Stanislaw
Apparatus is provided for stretching and tensioning an endless web, such as a blanket or felt for papermaking machines. The apparatus includes a trackway having at least one movable stretch roll mounted thereon and movable relative to a work station for supporting and stretching the endless web or blanket. The movable roll is supported on a movable carriage arrangement at each end of the roll, with the carriage arrangement at one end including a first carriage section and a separable second carriage section. The first carriage section includes a device for lifting one end of the movable roll, and the second carriage section is connected to a saddle support which is pivoted into position to support the movable roll in the lifted position. The first carriage section is then disconnected from the second carriage section and is rolled away from its position under the movable roll. In this manner, the endless web can then be removed from the lifted end of the roll and replaced with another web. The process is then reversed to move the first carriage section back into position so that the movable roll can be lowered back onto the first carriage section.
