This disclosure relates to a laundry apparatus, papermaking apparatus or the like wherein the moisture in the wet laundry, paper slurry or the like, disposed therein is removed by an electrostatic means that provides a nonuniform field between the moisture in the laundry, paper slurry or the like and an electrode means to tend to cause the moisture to leave the laundry, paper slurry or the like and move toward the electrode means where the higher intensity portion of the nonuniform field is located. Such moisture removal operation can take place while the moisture-bearing material is being subjected to an inaudible scream and/or ultrasonic vibration, etc., to enhance the electrostatic moisture removal operation.

A nozzle structure for a web-drying apparatus, in which a web is supported between upper and lower pressurized airflows, is provided by a plurality of airflow passageways arranged in a honeycomb configuration, each passageway being supplied through a supply orifice of smaller cross section than the cross section of the passageway, and with the honeycomb providing multiple transverse rows in juxtaposition so as to provide an elongated layer of air between the nozzle and the web which operates to prevent contact between the web and the nozzle during high-speed transport through the drier.

This disclosure relates to apparatus and methods for making paper sheet material and the like sheet material, wherein a paper sheet or the like producing moisture bearing slurry supply means feeds its slurry to a portion of a belt means to produce a moisture bearing paper web material on such portion of the belt means. Said web material is fed from said belt portion to a web drying section wherein the web has its moisture gradually removed by other portions of the belt means in cooperation with electrostatic electrode means. The electrode means may include relatively large and relatively small electrode means to produce moisture removing nonuniform electrostatic fields. Various parts of previous paper making apparatus may be modified to remove the moisture.
