Apparatus and method for coating a moving paper web, in which method the web (2) to be coated is first guided to a coating station (7) correctly aligned and a first side of the web (2) is coated with a coat layer. Next, the web (2) is guided upwards from the coating station (7) and the first coat layer is dried using non-contact dryers (8, 9). From the dryers the web (2) is guided to the next coating station (14) correctly aligned and the second side of the web (2) is coated with a coat layer, the web (2) is guided upwards from the coating station (14) and the coat layer on the second side of the web (2) is dried using non-contact dryers (8, 9). When the web is directed from the coating station (7) via the dryers (8, 9), it (2) is guided non-contactingly by means of air jets such that the web (2) is first non-contactingly turned in the machine direction during drying and next, similarly during drying, towards the level of the coating stations (7, 14).

222 METHOD AND SYSTEM IN A PAPER MACHINE AND SOFTWARE PRODUCT EP05808084.7 2005-11-11 EP1836347A2 2007-09-26 SUNDQVIST, Hans; NORRI, Petri
The invention comprises a method and a system in a paper machine, and also a software product, allowing one or more tools to be generated for indicating the state of the paper production process in terms of energy consumption to the operating staff of the paper machine. This allows continual monitoring of the state of the paper production process and/or its energy efficiency combined with efforts to develop the manners of running the paper machine and its dryer section in a more favourable direction. In one embodiment of the invention, the dry solids content DSC of the press section can be calculated by means of the evaporation amount of the dryer section, the production of finished paper and the final paper moisture as follows: DSC = m pap,d/( m pap,d + m H2O), in which m pap,d is the dry mass flow of the paper web to the dryer section and m H2O is the water mass flow to the dryer section. m H2O is obtained by summing up the mass flow of the water discharged from the dryer section and the evaporated water mass flow.

227 IMPROVED METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR COLLECTING AND HANDLING DUST IN A PAPERMACHINE ENVIRONMENT EP00921886 2000-04-06 EP1169110A4 2005-11-23 COURTNEY KEVIN; KLYMENKO JERRY; WICKLUND PETER KEVIN; PONKA PHILIP
An improved process and system (22) for collecting and handling dust in a papermaking machine environment (20) wherein dust-laden air is drawn into and moves along an elongated collector (38 or 40) by way of a vacuum-generating source (42) connected to the collector involves the introduction of water into the collector so that the introduced water becomes entrained by the dust-laden air moving through the collector and wet-scrubs the dust-laden air upon entering the collector. With the dust being wet-scrubbed upon exiting the collector, the likelihood of ductwork fouling is substantially eliminated, and the risk of fire in the ductwork downstream of the collector is appreciably reduced.

With the method of preventing contamination of the surface of a drum dryer used in a paper machine, according to the invention, a predetermined amount of a surface forming agent P is continuously supplied to the surface of the drum dryer D1 in rotation, facing a paper strip W, while the paper strip W is being fed by the paper machine in operation.

240 METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR MANUFACTURING SURFACE-TREATED PRINTING PAPER EP99934759.4 1999-07-12 EP1097269A1 2001-05-09 LINNONMAA, Pekka; HEIKKINEN, Antti
In the method for manufacturing surface-treated printing paper, a paper web is first dried down to a target moisture of the surface treatment, and it is wetted again to the target moisture before the surface treatment. The re-wetting to the target moisture is conducted on the web running to the surface treatment before a device effecting the surface treatment of the web, as seen in the travel direction of the web. Before re-wetting, the moisture profile of the web is adjusted in the drying section by wetting the web at a point which is located before the area of the heavy shrinkage (cd shrinkage area) in the travel direction of the web.
