30 Method for automatically placing parts on leather pieces with non-homogeneous characteristics US09600337 1999-11-12 US06868303B1 2005-03-15 Didier Chabirand Garçonnet; Alain Vallortigara
A method for laying out pieces to be cut out from a remnant of flexible material, the cut out pieces being used to manufacture an article. A mask generic to remnants of a given type is generated. The at least one generic mask is subdivided into zones which correspond to different gradations of a characteristic of the remnant, e.g. leather color or leather grain. At least some of the pieces to be cut out are assigned a set of constraints including at least one value constraint for a characteristic of the remnant. At least some of the pieces to be cut out are linked to each other, for example, as a function of the constraints assigned to the respective pieces. The at least one generic mask is applied to a particular remnant of the given type to subdivide the particular remnant into zones having uniform characteristics. The pieces to be cut out are automatically laid out on the particular remnant as a function of any constraints assigned to the pieces, and in compliance with the links defined between the pieces.
31 Method and apparatus for real time yield control US09389273 1999-09-02 US06487473B1 2002-11-26 William Scott Beck; Michael Paul Grimm; Alan L. Mountain
A procedure and a device for determining yield of usable pieces from a raw material when or before the usable pieces are produced. Determination of the area of raw material is automated, and pieces of raw material are encoded with a marking indicating the area and other pertinent information. The use of proximity sensors in combination with cutting dies permits the automation of yield calculation. The results of the yield calculation can be viewed on a real time basis and provide feedback to the production process, preventing low-yield production and facilitating balanced production of pieces. Indicators permit an operator to be signaled to increase production of underproduced pieces.
32 Method of cutting out blanks from, irregular workpieces of sheet material US829489 1997-03-27 US5953232A 1999-09-14 Gottfried Blaimschein
A method of cutting out blanks from workpieces of a sheet material comprises the steps of spreading the workpieces on a supporting surface of an imaging apparatus, manually marking the characteristic features of the workpieces to obtain markings, assigning a workpiece identifier to each spread workpiece, photographing the contour of the workpieces, the markings and the workpiece identifiers to obtain corresponding data, entering the obtained data into a computer having a memory having stored therein data as to number, contour and quality requirements of the blanks, the computer computing a pattern on the basis of the entered and stored data, storing the computed pattern and allocating the stored pattern to the workpieces identified by the workpiece identifiers, placing a respective workpiece on a working surface of a cutting apparatus in a determined position, photographing the one workpiece and the determined position thereof to obtain corresponding data, entering the obtained data into the computer, the computer computing the determined position and selecting the stored pattern allocated to the one workpiece, repositioning the one workpiece in a position adjusted to the selected stored pattern, and cutting the one workpiece in response to a control program responsive to the selected stored pattern allocated to said workpiece.
33 Method of digitizing and cutting up remnants of non-repetitive shapes US732220 1996-10-25 US5838569A 1998-11-17 Pierre Gane
Sheet materials in the form of remnants of non-repetitive shapes and that might be flawed, e.g. hides (10), are cut up using a method that includes the following operations: digitizing the geometrical shape of each remnant; defining a layout for pieces to be cut out from the remnant; and cutting out the pieces from the remnant in compliance with the resulting layout. The surface of the remnant (10) is provided with marks characteristic at least of the disposition and of the orientation of the remnant during digitization. The marks are detected so as to generate and record position information representative of the positions of the first marks. At the cutting-out station (300), images of the marks in the positions defined by the recorded first position information are projected onto a work surface, and the corresponding remnant is placed on the work surface by bringing together the marks carried on the surface of the remnant and their projected images, so as to cut out the pieces from the remnant in a disposition and an orientation similar to those which it had during digitization.
