A curable resin composition for water-based paints comprising an emulsion polymer (A) bearing tertiary amino groups which is prepared by emulsion polymerizing a vinylic monomer having a tertiary amino group with other vinylic monomer in an aqueous medium and a compound (B) bearing both an epoxy group and a hydrolyzable silyl group as essential components and preferably containing an aqueous mixture (C) prepared by adding a neutralizing agent to a vinylic polymer (I) having acid groups and/or tertiary amino groups in such an amount as to neutralize at least 10 % of the acid groups and/or the tertiary amino groups and dispersing or dissolving the obtained mixture in water and/or a compound (D) other than the compound (B) which has a hydrolyzable silyl group and/or a silanol group. The paint prepared by using the composition is curable at ordinary temperatures and excellent in workability in coating and can give a cured coat excellent in the resistances to weather, solvents, chemicals, water and so on and reduced in environmental pollution. | ||||||

Die Erfindung betrifft wasserverdünnbare, lufttrocknende Beschichtungsmittel auf der Basis von Kombinationen wasserverdünnbarer Alkydharze, welche einen Gehalt von 30 bis 70 % an oxidativ trocknenden Fettsäuren aufweisen und dessen freie, einer Säurezahl von 25 bis 70 mg KOH/g entsprechenden Carboxylgruppen zu mindestens 80 % von Methacrylsäureeinheiten stammen, die gemeinsam mit anderen Vinyl- und/oder (Meth)acrylmonomeren auf zumindestens einen Teil der Fettsäuren aufgepfropft sind, mit wäßrigen Polymerdispersionen und maleinisierten Ölen bzw. Fettsäuren. Die Produkte dienen, gegebenenfalls nach Einarbeitung von Pigmenten, Füllstoffen und/oder dem jeweiligen Verwendungszweck entsprechenden Lackhilfsmitteln oder Lackzusätzen, als Beschichtungsmittel für Holz- und Metalluntergründe, insbesonders für Streichlacke und Holzlasuren. |

Novel polymeric binder for use in an antifouling paint which includes a toxicant. The polymeric binder is film-forming, water insoluble, seawater erodible and is represented by formula (I), wherein, in one embodiment, X is H or CH3; R is a substantially non-bioactive, alkyl, aryl or arylalkyl moiety; and recurring groups B, where B is the residue of an ethylenically unsaturated monomer. The polymer has a hydrolysis rate of at least 5X10-4 milliequivalents per hour. The resultant paint has an erosion rate of at least 2 microns per month.R can be selected from the group consisting of : a) formula (II) or formula (III), wherein Z is NO2, halogen or CN; b) -(CH2)nY, wherein n is an integer from 1 to 4; and Y is selected from the group consisting of formula (IV), and wherein R' is C1 to C4 primary, secondary or tertiary alkyl, R" is H or R'; R''' is alkyl or an aryl; c) can be -SiR''' or -Si(OR''')3; d) R can be a haloalkyl group having at least one trihalomethyl group where the halogen is Br, F, Cl, and the alkyl has at least two carbons, e.g. trifluoroethyl acrylate; e) a quaternized aminoalkyl represented by formula (V), where Y is Br, Cl or I, R', R" and R''' are the same or different C1 to C18 alkyls; and f) formula (VI), wherein n is 1 or 2; R'''' is a phenyl group or a C1 to C4 primary, secondary or tertiary alkyl. This invention relates to aqueous "multi-pack" coating compositions, that is, those which comprise at least two discrete components (or "packs") which are mixed prior to application. Prior attempts to provide an aqueous multi-pack composition have failed to provide a suitable combination of the desirable characteristics of adequate "pot-life" (the time for which the mixed components remain workable) and early development of adequate mechanical properties. The compositions of the present invention which provide such a combination consist of a number of components which together comprise a constituent having epoxide groups, a constituent comprising addition polymer in the form of an aqueous dispersion and a constituent capable of reacting with epoxide groups. In an especially preferred embodiment, the aqueous addition polymer dispersion is combined with at least one of the other constituents in the form of a multi-polymer particle dispersion. The compositions are useful in the automotive refinish and heavy duty coatings areas. |
