This invention provides a sound insulating material that has excellent sound insulating properties and moldability. The sound insulating material comprises an inorganic compound contained in a thermoplastic resin foam and is characterized in that the inorganic compound is contained in an amount of 30 to 300 parts by weight based on 100 parts by weight of the thermoplastic resin constituting the thermoplastic resin foam. The sound insulating material has excellent sound insulating properties and moldability and can be molded into a form conforming to the shape of a member to be sound insulated by a conventional molding method with good accuracy. Accordingly, the sound insulating material can be stably applied onto the member to be sound insulated, for example, in floor materials of automobiles or partition walls for partitioning an engine room from a vehicle interior without causing a substantial space between the sound insulating material and the member to be sound insulated, and can reliably conduct sound insulation treatment. |
