摘要	NEW MATERIAL:Title compound of formula I [R is formula II, III (R 1 WR 3 are H, methyl; wherein at least one of them is methyl). EXAMPLE: The compound of formula IV. USE: Antitumorigenic agent, synthetic intermediate of veterinary medicines and other derivatives. The dosage is 0.5W80mg/kg. day when administered parenterally or 1W100mg/kg. day when administered orally. PREPARATION: Geldanamycin of formula V is dissolved in a solvent and an excess amount, preferably 4W6 times the equimolar quantity of geldanamycin, of silver oxided is suspended in the solution. Then, methylation is effected by adding an excess amount, preferably 8W10 times the equimolar amount, of a methyl halide, e.g., methyl iodide, to the product for 3W24hrs at room temperature to give the objective compound of formula I.
