PURPOSE: To provide a motor-generator system wherein a short-circuit switch is connected in parallel to an auxiliary exciting winding thereby to make it possible to the auxiliary excitation from a generator source without providing a separately provided source even in a machine of a large capacity. CONSTITUTION: When a motor-generator is started, ground switches 28 and 29 are firstly turned on to bring a pantograph 21 into contact with a line 20. Thereafter, a line breaker 23 is turned on to supply a starting current to a motor 11. Upon this occasion, a short-circuit switch 40 is opened, and the starting current also flows through an auxiliary exciting winding 18. At the time of completion of starting, a timer operates and the short-circuit switch 40 is turned on and the auxiliary exciting winding 18 is short-circuited. At the time of the constant operation henceforth, the excitation of the generator is carried out by use only of a field winding 17, and automatically carried out by an automatic voltage control circuit 31. PURPOSE: To obtain excellent control characteristics as a whole by reducing the gain of a speed controller in the nonlinear section of a fluid joint. CONSTITUTION: A speed controller 1a is set to have the PI gain corresponding to the linear section and a speed controller 1b that corresponding to the nonlinear section. By inputting the input signal to a control drive 3 in the nonlinear section decision device 8, the position corresponding to the nonlinear section is detected with positional transducers (A) to (D). The nonlinear section AB can be detected by the AND between a contact Aa closing beyond the position (A) and a contact Bb closing below the position of (B). The nonlinear section CD can also be detected by the AND between Ca and Db in the same way.
