This invention pertains to a method and machine for slip forming concrete wall structures such as median barrier walls for highways. Power means provide for a controlled relative movement of the side walls, skirt members and top wall and the relative arrangement of the side walls and top wall is such that a glare shield can be formed over any selected section of the barrier wall without interrupting the continuous advance of the machine in the forming of the barrier wall with linear and reversely curved sections.

Each barrel segment acts as a piston, with control fluid forces being transmitted to the barrel assembly to selectively extend or retract the barrel assembly in order to engage or disengage the pipe gripping assembly. By aggregating such force, the total combined force generated by the barrel piston assemblies, the actuator assembly of the present invention can operate using pneumatic control fluid, and can operate at much lower control fluid pressures than other actuators.
